It is an interesting article, but a lot of things clubs are referring to which are increasing their costs I wouldn’t have thought have an impact…… energy (included in ground rent), fertiliser (not used), diesel (no ground maintenance), coaches (can’t imagine the team travel to matches on coaches to more than a handful of matches).

So our issue mainly comes down to the reduced attendances, which if this was as a result of the ‘cost of living crisis’ why are average attendances in all top five divisions almost identical to those in the last uninterrupted season, 2018-2019 season.

I think our fall in attendances over the last four years is a great deal more complex & there needs to be serious discussions or a survey to understand whether it is:-

1. the demographic of the fan base - is the average age of the current fan base very high? Is age, ill health, or apprehension about getting back to normal for older people an issue?
2. is our club representative of our local community? In 2011 approximately 65% of Slough’s population was Black, Asian or minority ethnic (possibly more in 2022)

3. would there be more interest from the local community if there were more local players they could possibly relate to, or younger players in the early stages of their football career?

I don’t know whether it is anything to do with any of these, or if there are a multitude of other reasons why we aren’t attracting big crowds (or even average crowds for our league), but I think the club should make efforts to find out before crowds dwindle further and the club drops down a league or goes to the wall.

Although the club ‘pushed the boat out’ with the signings of Goddard, Wells and re-signing Kuhl it’s very obvious we have next to no money to bring in proven decent reinforcements. We’ve only been able to name 4 players as subs recently and that includes a 40+ year old! You could say we have 3 or 4 out on loan/dual registered but for me none are currently going to add anything extra. So we’re stuck in a bit of a rut so I’ve certainly reassessed my predictions for the season and we just have to realise with such a small squad mid table might not be so bad!

As no reason was given do we presume it’s to save turning on the floodlights? Although I thought that cost was part of our rental fee unless the council have requested it?

We shouldnt have to speculate about the reasons for this announcement It should have been explained imo.

This was a request by the players, as the team are having a team bonding weekend away in Dublin, and wanted to try and get a reasonable flight on the Saturday evening.

As explained before, the vast majority of players in non league would prefer earlier kick offs, but clearly it rarely happens.

There was a possibility of a Friday night game, but Eastbourne travel to Hemel on the Tuesday and did not want to do 2 midweek trips.

Friday night is something we will 100 per cent look to try at some point.

Who is funding this bonding weekend?

If it is the club, why are we told that there are concerns over finances?
