I don't think there's any way we'd risk sitting back waiting/hoping for this to happen.

If someone comes along during pre season it will/should be a bonus.

I suspect we’d keep back 1 or 2 spaces during pre-season games as I’m sure they’ll be a few trialists trying to impress plus any other players who are still looking to get fixed up.

So you’re saying let’s wait for the scraps/cast offs! This close season just feels a lot longer in waiting for news when the vast majority are announcing players. Of course if the wait is worth it then great!

One team's "cast offs" are another team's gold. Don't underestimate our manager's ability to spot and get the best out of players.

Not sure I agree with that Glen. With the current make up of the squad thar has been announced (along with the potential pre-season names) I think the club has done well so far in its announcements and at this point I suspect there is many different wheels in motion for players. I think having 12 of a probable 18/19 man squad announced by mid-June is about right.

It’s fine not to agree it’s all about different opinions! I could well be wrong and I don’t have the facts to hand, just for me it’s seems a very slow transfer window. I’m pretty sure training will start next Saturday so you’d think they’d be a lot more than 12 players involved.

And there’s no doubting that, I just wouldn’t want to wait that close to a seasons start to start recruiting. For all we know the 4/5/6 new players may already have agreed to sign weeks ago and the club have chosen not to announce it yet.

I'd guess pre season training will start either next Thursday or Saturday.

Winger/forward John Goddard has left St Albans.

Goddard has set up a youth academy in Berkshire and wants to play closer to his home to concentrate on his academy commitments.

Hmmm Slough is based in Berkshire… ?

I think he's based Reading way so my guess money bags Farnborough are the favourites with Hungerford or Slough next on the list.

Was probably one of St Albans best players last season so will be an excellent signing.

Epic rant! Looks like someone has run off and left them up the proverbial creek. Very sad.

Looks like the previous owner ran off knowing the club didn't own one of the penalty areas and instead was owned by a local resident.

Looks like it is blame everyone else for their woes, however, as a resident of Spelthorne I have the same grievance as them to the abilities of Kwasi Kwarteng our elusive and invisible MP.

He is out of the same mould as Boris – ex Eton boy!

An MP who has represented the constituency since 2010 but still refuses to live there!

He is as useful as a chocolate fire guard for his constituents and hopefully will be a casualty of the Partygate episode come the next election.

As for Staines Town FC, their demise has been long coming and is of little surprise.

Michael Edegbe signed on a season long loan for Southall.

Just imagine what it is like for U 'As supporters.

It is now 27th June. Supporters have not been advised directly by the club of any departures or arrivals in the first team squad.

The Fans Forum advises that Francis Amartey has gone to Aldershot Town and Omar Rowe to Farnborough.

There is good news on the facilities :-

New Bar and catering - it’s clear all efforts are focused on completion of the new bar. For anyone who hasn’t seen the footprint … it’s massive. All electrical work is now complete, including fire alarm installation throughout. Plumbers are in for water connection, toilets etc. Builders due in shortly for ceiling completion, internal brickwork and externally sorting the drainage, tarmac and access to the facility. Talks are in an advanced state with a well known brewery (who have a tie with the Marlow brewery so the Rebellion beers will still feature). All good news but clearly still a lot to do. There is a real drive to open for the start of the new season but failing that the World Cup is an absolute must. The shortcomings of not running our own tea bar are acknowledged but whilst an alternative is in place this is not a high priority.

New Stand - I highlighted the fact that the new stand arrived with a lot of positivity but now nearly eight months down the line it’s the complete opposite. The size of the stand (able to hold over 500) deems it a “designated stand” which means it is subject to all sorts of additional regulations. Boils down to requiring council sign off. Why it’s taking so long to get this over the line is not clear but I was assured the stand will be open for the start of the season. The ground will require its annual safety inspection ahead of the season start so at worst the stand visit will be rolled into that.

Tannoy - all present acknowledged the deficiencies of the current tannoy system. Although the music seems clear enough any announcements are indecipherable. Annoying for the 50/50 winning numbers but far more serious from a safety point of view. Appears the amplifier has seen better days but the issue seems to be more around the microphone. It was agreed that a pre-season friendly would be used to conduct a system test with a volunteer “crowd” spaced around the ground to test reception in all areas. This should flush out whether we have a system issue or otherwise.

All of that SG might speak to, or be a contributing factor certainly, why Hayes struggle to attract new supporters and grow the fan base, dispute having good facilities, a good ground (certainly stand) and challenging at the top of the league.

I guess each team has their ways of doing things and I doubt that too many Hayes players will be on "full" contracts so you don't want players being "poached" for a tenner a week extra, but to have given no info at all, even with Rowe and Amarty leaving and being announced elsewhere, is a poor showing to say the least.

Hampton and Richmond fc have acquired the useful midfielder Alfy Whittingham [son of ex professional Guy Whittingham] from Havant and Waterlooville fc.

Really good thread (and very long) on Twitter on this currently -
