Morning all.

Rather hot out there today !

There is a documentary on the BBC Scotland channel on Sunday at  7.15pm that I will be watching.

It's about the Scotland under 18 team that won that age group's  European Championship in 1982, Scotland's only major international title.

I believe it is about Pat Nevin (ex- Chelsea ) , a member of that 1982  Scotland team trying to re-unite the other players from that tournament on the 40th anniversary of their success.

Now I'm not bringing this to your attention on here because I think that we have a lot of Scotland fan's on our forum !

I'm certainly not a member of the Tartan Army !

But one member of that victorious Scotland team back in !982 was a certain Gary McGinnis, who older Slough fans will remember played for The Rebels between  1996-1998.

I certainly do.

It is quite possible  that Gary might not even get a mention, or if he does it may be only a fleeting one, but I will still find it an interesting programme to watch.

This might be a ridiculous thing to type, but I have a distinct nagging memory from somewhere in the back of my mind that in those years 1996 -ish we had a player who flew down regularly to play for us from Scotland.

Was that Gary, or am I just going totally ga-ga !

Anyway, just thought some people might be interested in the programme !

Good to hear from you again HR!

BTW there is no such thing as a ridiculous thing to type on this forum and that's from someone who does it all the time, but ask me if I care a flying fig ?

If my memory serves me right we had one former Scottish international who I think flew down by helicopter for a game against Winchester City, then again this could possibly be just an urban myth. or my memory fails me.

Again I think we possibly had a Scottish and ex Reading player, possibly James Lambert, who flew down for games.

If either one or both of these are wrong I'm sure someone will correct me.

Just remembered the first players name was Paul Telfer, played the one game which we lost and he was never to be seen again.

It was Dylan Kerr (ex Leeds and Reading) who flew down from Scotland for matches. He had recently been released by Kilmarnock.

You're thinking of Paul Telfer (https://www.sloughtownfc.net/profile/1339/Paul-Telfer) who I believe lived in Winchester (despite having played for Leeds United earlier on that season).

Francis Amartey leaving Hayes as expected. Not sure there will be a fee involved or not.

Luke Ruddick leaving Hampton, will be interesting to see where he ends up.

Looking at Luke Ruddick's playing history it seems he's had major injury and health problems.

Played regularly for Salisbury City in 2008 since then he's played a total of 29 games in 14 seasons.

For Hampton he's played a total of 8 games since signing in 2018.

Dartford boss Alan Dowson says he needs just a couple of forwards to complete his squad for new season also says he sees Dan Roberts as an out and out winger and that's where he'll be played. He says there'll  be an open day on July2 for supporters to meet the squad and new management team.

Out and out winger? Not sure about that.

I wonder how many times Dowson has seen Dan Roberts play.

Luke Ruddick has signed for Hanworth Villa.

21 year old Zico Asare has just moved from Oxford City to Maidenhead (at the beginning of last season he joined Oxford City from Fulham U23).

20 year old Dominic Hutchinson was on loan at Eastbourne last season from Watford U23, has been released by Watford U23 and apparently is based in Harrow.

21 year old striker Ryan Cassidy was on loan at Bohemians last season from Watford U23 & has also been released by Watford U23 (has played for Republic of Ireland U17, U18 & U19, and also received a call up for the U21 in November 2020).

Patience! Every year Pro clubs release loads of young players........and loads of older players get released too.

So you’re saying let’s wait for the scraps/cast offs! This close season just feels a lot longer in waiting for news when the vast majority are announcing players. Of course if the wait is worth it then great!

Not sure I agree with that Glen. With the current make up of the squad thar has been announced (along with the potential pre-season names) I think the club has done well so far in its announcements and at this point I suspect there is many different wheels in motion for players. I think having 12 of a probable 18/19 man squad announced by mid-June is about right.

I don't think there's any way we'd risk sitting back waiting/hoping for this to happen.

If someone comes along during pre season it will/should be a bonus.
