A couple of non league snippets

With two players having left already, there could be further departures at Beaconsfield due to players not being paid since November.

Looks like they are very reliant on the money we pay them for renting their pitch.

In three games I've seen SYCOB this season, their tall centre half Guri Demuria has stood out and looks like he is a good prospect.

Now that Justin Clayton and Craig Scott have departed, perhaps we should check him out if SYCOB are going to lose their best players.

One player has gone to Harrow Borough and one to Wingate.

Seems like they've got some talent in their squad, although I think some are to do with the Wycombe academy/development squad.

Gary MacDonald leaves Farnborough with Spencer Day saying “We had to move on from Gary, we just decided to go down a different path because we were still conceding soft goals,”

Also Darryl Siaw, who is a center back/full back who has played at a higher level, has left Farnborough and signed for Guildford City.

Who were the last three players to leave Slough Town for a higher level club?

When and who did they go to? And where are they now?

I've only started regularly attending matches over the last three seasons (and don't recall any moves to higher level clubs), so I don't know the answers and it would be great to hear the them from some longer term fans.

Adam Martin went to Bohemian FC in Ireland after his first spell at Slough and Scored in a Europa League Qualifier match.

Mo Shariff went to the QPR Academy at 16. He didn't make a senior appearance I don't think but was on a senior contract.

Most successfully though from recent years is Garath McCleary who is currently at Reading and made over 100 appearances, he is also a current Jamaica international and played in the Gold cup against Argentina and a certain Lionel Messi and co.

Oliver Hawkins played well against Maidenhead for Hemel recently, looked a decent player (I was moonlighting as usual). Not surprised he's been picked up by a higher level club. I've seen Maidstone and Hemel this season now and both are good sides, whereas Maidenhead blow hot and cold, usually the latter when I turn up LOL. I guess Sam Barrett is under contract there, his appearances are however very limited and usually from subs bench. I think he would have played regularly for us if he'd signed.

I can find that Garath McCleary played for us back on 2006/7 and left for Bromley at age 20 and is now at Reading, and Mo Shariff played in 2009/10 to go to QPR at age 16, and now appears to be at Hemel Hempstead (?).

But who are Sam Barrett and Oliver Hawkins? Our player database doesn't show them ever playing for us.

Is that it though? Have we not had anyone progress on to a higher level club since 2010?

And if so, why are we not seeing any players develop and progress? Are we generally signing players who are already at their peak?

Sam Barrett was with us for pre season before getting an offer from someone else.

There aren't a huge number of players who go from non league (outside of conference) into league football. Even less do now that more and more international players come over to England.

If you look at the clubs history we have had quite a few players move up into professional football. Many of those older than me will happily drone on about them :P

In more recent times Dave Rainford played for us in circa 2001/2/3, went on to Chelmsford, possibly Bishops Stortford as well and played in the football league for Dagenham & Redbridge. I could be wrong on the latter but definitely played professionally for a while.

I won't drone on about him though...................

Oliver Hawkins has never played for us. He is a player that we have played against a few times when we use to play Northwood.

He's obviously improved as a player over the years to play for Hemel and now Dagenham.
