Glen, where did you see that Elliott Buchanan had left Farnbough? Not on their website, forum or Twitter.

If true Slough should try after him. No harm asking if he has a club lined up.

We probably wouldn't be able to afford him but if Aaron Kuhl goes, we might be able to.

I see Elliott Buchanan has left Farnborough, could he be one of the familiar faces returning? Personally I very much doubt it due to what wages he’s been on and would want.

With Eastbourne and Hungerford both losing their prolific star strikers, I can’t see either being in the play offs unless they sign replacements who can score as many.

I know we shouldn't take it literally but what was said was 'one or two' familiar faces. We've had Dobbo and pretty certain we'll see Guy Hollis back so I doubt we'll be seeing Buchanan.

Besides Buchanan will be 33 next month and is he really that good a player now? We've seen him play once or twice at AP for the opposition and  apart from a couple of decent things imo he looked nothing special and wouldn't be my choice for our new striker.

He did score 29 goals last season! By the sounds of it he’s a little lazy so just for that alone he wouldn’t be on our radar even if we could afford him which is very unlikely. I’m just hoping we can sign at least one decent striker, ideally one from the league below or an older experienced who knows our league or above.

How can you say that when Slough currently only have one striker that we know of and he is a novice?

Elliott Buchanan has scored goals at every club he has been at and would do a job for Slough. He might be past his best but 33 is not old. I think we would be daft not to approach him.

Also look at the experience he has got, starting out at Stevenage under Peter Taylor as a youngster and playing for a lot of good clubs since, and if he is still like he was when he played under Steve Bateman for Slough he didn't seem full of ego and appeared to be a willing team player, despite his success in non league football.

We took a risk on Alfonso Tenconi who scored ten goals last season and we had Ben Harris for several seasons but last season only scored 5 goals,so why are we worried that Elliott might not be up to the task.

He wasn't lazy when he played for Slough last time. Our managers might be a good fit for him, and also he might now have something to prove given that Spencer Day has doubted his ability for the National South.

It's difficult to know what Slough's budget is compared to other teams. It's obvious it's not one of the better ones, though !

What I don't get RR, is why you think Slough should be fighting it out for a play-off place, if Slough only have a mid to lower table budget?

I know our managers are very competent at what they do but should fans expect Slough to make or get close to the play-offs every season?

I just think it's better to be upbeat and positive about a new season than take the opposite view that it's a low budget and mid table is the best we can expect.

I'm upbeat and positive for the new season but I'm a realist and don't tend to get carried away, as dreams don't very often come true.

Just as a matter of interest who would be your choice of a new striker for Slough, given that Slough don't seem to be blessed with big money to buy a top notch one?

I didn't say if not Buchanan then we don't get any other striker.

I'd just rather get a younger hungrier striker than Buchanan who imo has seen his best day's.

There must be a reason why Spencer Day doesn't fancy him at a higher level.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. I think it would be good to have an experienced striker especially now Ben Harris has left. We can still complement him with younger forwards like Imran.

Glen where did you get that Buchanan scored 29 goals last season from?

Just looked at the southern premier scoring charts and he's nowhere to be seen.

The man said it himself on his Twitter, I suspect that’s 29 goals all competitions and he may not have started the season with Farnborough?

According to https://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/ in the 2021/2 season Elliott Buchanan scored 7 goals for Farnborough in Southern League Premier South and 23 goals for Kingstonian in Isthmian League Premier. He began the season at Kingstonian, was signed by Farnborough on 24th September but loaned back to Kingstonian on 25th October before returning to Farnborough on 11th March.

Easy to miss a few of his goals but they call me a statistics man.

Still a good return,whatever.

Ben Harris scored 40 goals through 4 seasons in 120 appearances. Tyler Goodrham scored 3 goals in 17 matches,Imran Kayani 3 goals in 18 games but did score 14 times for the Under 23's. Chris Flood scored 43 goals in 107 appearances. Alfonso Tenconi scored 10 goals in 31 games. Tom Derry scored 2 goals in 9 appearances.

So Tom Derry has the best goals to games ratio.

I though we were too rash getting rid of him ?

Buchanan wanted to stay at Farnborough and Spencer Day has cooked up a story saying his contract was denied/rejected by the FA.

Probably tell it's own story.

You need to brush up on your Maths RR! Derry’s goal ratio was 1 goal every 4.5 games. According to those stats Flood had the best ratio 1 goal every 2.48 games.
