So the top seven will be Dartford, Havant & Waterlooville, Weymouth, Ebbsfleet United, Oxford City and Eastbourne Borough with Slough Town and several other clubs hoping to be the seventh.

As far as I am concerned, the Steering Group and Bakes and Unders have a sense of purpose and that is not avoiding relegation or being mid-table. Let's hope for a good start to the 2022/3 season and an FA Cup run ... after Christmas could be exciting!

Not sure about Eastbourne, having lost their top scorer.

Of course you mean avoiding relegation.

Every clubs ambition has to be a play-off place.

No manager is going to publicly say their intention for the season is to avoid relegation given the budget restraints they've got !

Also no manager can say for definite how their team is going to do in the forthcoming season. As all these managers wouldn't get the sack through the season, when their teams, for whatever reason, fail miserably.

I'll wait and see what players we sign and what Slough look like in pre-season, before I even hazard a guess how our team will do.

I think we're asking a lot of our joint managers to keep getting close or in the play offs.

My wish is that we can beat some of the so called big teams in the division, not ever be outclassed by anyone, always be competitive but play with Corinthian spirit, score plenty of goals and keep the odd clean sheet, let our flair players express themselves when attacking, and hope all our players/fans/managers enjoy the season.

If we can finish one or two places above where we finished in the table last season, I would view that as progress and success.

We might be asking a lot based on our budget but I'm sure our managers wouldn't have it any other way and will, I'm sure, inflict pressure on themselves to reach a play-off spot.

It's got to be a case of the bottom line being to avoid relegation but still aim for the play-offs.

Not sure about success but at least it'll be progress .

Last season Rebels only achieved one of those three : they beat some of the so called big teams in the division.

There were some matches when they were outclassed and some matches when they were not competitive.

Let us see if there will be consistency in the 2022/3 season as a number of factors undermined it in the 2021/2 season.

We should all know by now you can’t judge how the season may pan out based on friendlies!!! I’m sure our new signings will be mix of young with potential plus experienced and solid, we can’t expect any top top signings. What we realistically can hope for is another lucrative cup run to bring in much needed funds plus exposure which hopefully will increase home crowds for the club to build on.

Just looked at last seasons table, and Slough finished 13th out of 21 places. To me that's very good for the squad we had last season. We won 12 games, drew 13 and lost 15.

This season we have 24 teams in the division. I'd be happy if we can win and entertain more in the home matches [on a purely selfish basis as I watch many more home games ha ha !

Seriously though, if we can increase our wins and hover around roughly that amount of draws and have a small decrease in losses maybe to say 10, 11 or 12. I would say that's another great season, bearing in mind that we now have three extra teams. 12th or slightly higher would be viewed by me as another good season. Then see where the club is at [in terms of finances/sponsorship etc]for the following season.

Bakes and Unders - if only it was as easy as that ! ?

I didn't say I would judge the team on the friendlies. I said I would need to see the signings we had made and what the squad does in pre-season before I would 'even hazard a guess' where Slough will finish.

I agree GlenSTFC, going by form in friendly matches means diddleysquat. In the past Slough have won every friendly to then go on a disastrous run of results in the league matches, and vice versa Slough have been awful in pre-season to then start like a rocket and grab some great results early doors in the league.

Also teams aren't always the same [personnel wise], in what players start the season, to how the team is at winter time, and who is playing for the team towards the end of the season.

I wouldn't say finishing around halfway is having had a great season or even a good season.

Based on what will probably be a mid/lower table budget I'd say finishing halfway would be more of an ok/acceptable season.

Reaching the play-offs I would call a great season and being in contention for a play-off place a very good season.

You did not read my post as it was meant, RR. I was referring to what their sense of purpose will not be. Admittedly, my wording was ambiguous.

... have a sense of purpose and that is not "avoiding relegation" or "being mid-table".

Dan Roberts has been retained by Dartford.

I wonder how many games he'll play next season.

Jack Jebb is the first player to leave Dartford.

Good decision by Dartford to retain Dan Roberts imo. I always rated him highly both on and off the pitch,.

Agree that it could have been worded better Shredding ?

That Jack Jebb is a very good player I rate him. Surprised he's leaving, perhaps he's had a better offer.

What has Alan Dowson got to lose by keeping Dan Roberts?

Dorking have signed Jack Jebb from Dartford and Ryan Seager from Hungerford.

Didn't see this when I posted about Jack Jebb. Ryan Seager will be a big miss for Hungerford which might keep them around Slough's position, or lower with a bit of luck.

It's difficult to know what Slough's budget is compared to other teams. It's obvious it's not one of the better ones, though !

What I don't get RR, is why you think Slough should be fighting it out for a play-off place, if Slough only have a mid to lower table budget?

I know our managers are very competent at what they do but should fans expect Slough to make or get close to the play-offs every season?

I see Elliott Buchanan has left Farnborough, could he be one of the familiar faces returning? Personally I very much doubt it due to what wages he’s been on and would want.

With Eastbourne and Hungerford both losing their prolific star strikers, I can’t see either being in the play offs unless they sign replacements who can score as many.

Glen, where did you see that Elliott Buchanan had left Farnbough? Not on their website, forum or Twitter.

If true Slough should try after him. No harm asking if he has a club lined up.

We probably wouldn't be able to afford him but if Aaron Kuhl goes, we might be able to.
