A couple of non league snippets

Just to clear anything up, the statement says if both clubs are in agreement AND there is a fully funded COVID testing is in place, which the latter seems like might finally be sorted (however still believe it is only rapid tests, but better than nothing).

However we still have the huge thing that threatens the existence of clubs, which is the lack of funding, yes people keep saying clubs might be eligible for grants if they are going to the wall, well we are not in that position, however if we are forced to continue even with a 0 budget, the clubs still stands to lose a lot of money in costs, as do many other clubs, which will have a big effect going forward.

So no this is only the first aspect that seems to be sorted from mid Feb, but without funding as grants, many clubs are in a perilous position to continue.

Awful position to be in, and if the vote goes against the clubs who want to null and void, then there are going to be a lot of issues going forward.

Noticed no Lench in the Wealdstone squad today... dropped, ill, injured, suspended????

Wealdstone lost 4-1 today and according to twitter put in a pathetic performance under their interim manager so a very good chance Lenchy will get his opportunity against the league leaders Torquay on Tuesday.

So will these tests make any difference to our stance and others if the vote goes against? Could we field the U23’s to play out the season even though there would obviously be costs associated with this but far less than paying our first team. But would we only be allowed to furlough our 2 contracted players meaning the rest go without leading to possible departures? Hopefully the vote results will be know this week to stop this dragging on any further.

Sadly only 1 of our 3 NLS teams progressed to the last 8 of the FA Trophy  Oxford City beat Peterborough Sports 2-0  Maidstone were beaten 5-4 at Hornchurch by a 90+6 goal and Havant &W drew 2-2 with Notts County but their penalty takers let them down in a 4-2 shootout

Do any of you have a feel for in which season Maidstone United will win promotion to the English Football League?

After Maidstone went behind on 13 minutes and then took the lead on 28 minutes, Hornchurch equalised at 2-2 and went ahead on 58 minutes. Maidstone drew level at 3-3 on 59 minutes and at 4-4 after 71 minutes. Twenty-five minutes later The Urchins scored the winner.

Apparantly teams will get 60 tests per week  2x30  which is reckoned enough to cover players officials volunteers etc twice per week.

CHAIRMAN RESIGNS FROM LEAGUE BOARD

Dover Chairman, Jim Parmenter has today resigned as a Director of the National League.

In a letter sent to National League Chairman, Brian Barwick and members of the board, Mr Parmenter said  “I can no longer support the direction of travel that the board is taking and I’m afraid I can no longer be seen to be party to actions which I absolutely disagree with.

I accept that the board is a collective and whilst as a member it is a prerequisite that, in public, the board and it’s Chairman are supported.  I have therefore chosen to resign, in order to say what I really believe publicly.

The lack of grant funding should have been properly addressed in late December or at least very early January. As it stands it is likely to be two months with no funds for clubs before any sort of resolution is forthcoming.

I am in particular disagreement that the executive appear to be encouraging clubs to take large loans to complete the season, as I have said twice at board meetings I believe that the competition rules are being broken by allowing the proposed loans, let alone encouraging them. (Page 155 Appendices 08 of the rule book).

The league has for ten years insisted that clubs manage their financial affairs prudently and has had great success and received much praise for the results, now that is all to be thrown to the dogs and for what?

I understand why the bigger, richer clubs with chances of promotion are pushing hard to continue, but in a sense they are asking smaller clubs with no crowds or income who are playing for no reason to take large loans and probably over stretch themselves with dire consequences, to subsidise the larger clubs ambitions. I do not agree with that position.

The board has very little credibility as an organisation within our clubs and I believe the decision to send letters to clubs who find it difficult to play, threatening sanctions was ill conceived and will do nothing to unite the competition in what continues to be a very divisive time.  Even if the vote is to continue I do not believe that the league will be able to continue in any credible form or with integrity for another five months.

There are some very good people on the board and I do not seek to criticise individuals, but as a body I do not believe we have shown strong, relevant leadership. Our governance  has descended into chaos and some decisions made by the board seem to change when interpreted by the executive.”

As with numerous other statements from various clubs including our own, it is very well writtten.

Crux of the issue. The sight of NL(S) clubs seeking to advance their own positions by voting against allowing separate decisions to be reached for Steps 1 and 2 is particularly galling.

Step forward Dartford, Dorking, Havant, Hungerford and Eastbourne.

The directors of Oxford City issued a statement saying that they had voted for the season to continue but did not disclose how they had voted in respect of Resolution 1. Maidstone have voted for null and void and claimed they were done out of around £100,000 by the League's decision on how to distribute the original grant money. The "great family of football" at each others' throats.
