A couple of non league snippets

I would think there will be a joint statement from a fair few North & South clubs along these lines by the end of today:-

‘Chester FC wishes to update our supporters regarding the National League resolutions received on Monday evening.

The Board has begun a detailed review of the resolutions and the potential implications of the possible outcomes for our club.

We recognise the urgency of the situation and intend to respond as quickly as possible, but not before full consideration has been given. We have written to the National League asking for clarification on several points to assist us in reaching the best decision for our club.

We do not believe it reasonable to expect clubs to continue playing matches and incurring additional costs until the outcome is known. Given the importance of the resolutions, we feel the suspension of fixtures in the North and South divisions should be extended for a further week to allow clubs to focus fully on the matter at hand.

We will continue to keep our members and supporters updated.’

I am in agreement with that stance.

It gives all parties time to clarify matters and hope of completing the season.

It seems to me that almost all of the discussions currently taking place are still about money only If we all were awarded grants tomorrow I would still be unhappy to continue unless the safety of players and officials is  also dealt with.

One of the issues raised in the letter of 28th January was "Without adequate and fair funding towards COVID testing and to offset against the loss of income, we are unable to uphold the integrity of the football pyramid and insist that the season is curtailed no later than Friday, February 5, to allow all clubs to be assessed for grants."

But surely part of the grant money being requested will be towards regular/weekly testing? Or you would hope so!

Personally, I think it is likely the National League board will agree any club that has cast their vote for the season to be voided will not be sanctioned for any fixtures they don’t fulfil between now and when the results of the vote are concluded.

But if a club hasn’t cast its vote, or has abstained, then I would think it possible they will sanction them.

And our volunteers...

Sounds to me like he’s hopeful of receiving some sort of grant money in the next few weeks? Maybe he’s shown evidence that they’re worthy of some? So just over 2 days until we’re due to play Chelmsford... will the club hold firm and refuse to play or reluctantly give in?

I appreciate we have an army of volunteers on a match day with fans, on turnstiles, stewarding, selling programmes, 50/50 tickets, and providing bar & catering services etc, but out of interest how many do we currently have at matches with no fans?

Seems like after a chat with the new NL Chairman, the Concord Chairman Anthony Smith is prepared to cough up the money until the vote is decided.

His choice but hopefully he's just wasting his money.
