Not far off imo. I'd be more than happy if Slough finished 7th!

Playing devils advocate, finishing lower in the division than last season will be an acceptable season?

Bearing in mind Bakes and Unders are ambitious managers and will be looking to progress.

BTW I think the article is correct in that we are a couple of signings short of making a fist of it for promotion.

If finishing 5th as we did last season was a major over-achievement (which in our eyes it was) and if finishing 5th or 7th still means you need to win 3 playoff games to get promoted (which it does) then yes I think 7th would be acceptable.

But this is a FANS forum so I’ll keep quiet now and let you guys argue this one out! ?

Interesting to hear direct from the dynamic duo as ever, Jon. As a FAN (although I prefer the term supporter for reasons I have previously shared) I think comfortable survival would have been fine for our first season in the division so challenging for the playoffs was a big bonus. Challenging for the playoffs would have been a great achievement last season so to make them last season definitely exceeded expectations.

On that basis, getting to the playoffs again would certainly be acceptable. However, I know you guys and you are always looking to progress, so I'm sure if we get to the play-offs you will aim to be more competitive there.

I, too, thought our team over achieved last season. Before a ball had been kicked, back then [commencement of season], I would have taken a mid-table finish. Was delighted with the play off place.

This season, not yet knowing who we've signed new [except for Jack McKnight, who I know very, very little about] and having only seen a fleeting glimpse of Aaron Krul, I haven't come to any firm conclusions on where Slough will finish in the table . I would say I'm not expecting quite as good a showing as last season, more of a feeling/instinct on my part than any real evidence that this will be the case.

Have to say I'm not expecting miracles this season, given the coronavirus thing and that we don't seem to be splashing the cash so on that basis I'd be happy with 10th to 12th place finish, as long as we don't struggle for goals/excitement/wins. Might review this situation again, if we were to sign three higher profile players, otherwise I see Slough being overtaken by a few teams, this time around.

Macclesfield Town were expelled from the NL yesterday due to failure to pay £500000+ debts and their failure to provide a credible plan to discharge this debt You may recall they were relegated  from the EFL last season and would have started next season in the NL.

This could mean Ebbsfleet are now reprieved meaning our league runs with just 20 teams. Which will result in 2 home matches less and I guess no relegation this season.

Would have thought this will be unlikely as the National League has had its AGM and confirmed its constitution. It will be an inconvenience but the league can comfortably run with one club less.
