Even though they can obviously afford it, there’s just no need for such a large squad. Ultimately you’re not going to be able to keep 13 players happy and you’re just wasting money on players who will play next to no part. Why not trim 5 players off that squad and have the cash to buy another top higher level player... ?

Obviously they will not all be on a contract and will be on relatively low wages in comparison to some of their players.

Yes of course but let’s say the 13 who aren’t starting are on an average of £300 (which i think is quite conservative!) that’s nearly £4,000 a week which is probably the entire wage bill for quite a few clubs in our division!

Paul Doswell (H&W) has announced that 7 members of his squad have been asked to find another club

He says he his looking for keener younger players and has a number hes looking at but not in hurry to make signings

Yes, reduced budget, 7/8 new signings of which 4/5 will be young players plucked from league clubs lodging in a house a few miles from the ground.

Have to give him some credit for coming up with some different ideas.

Josh Taylor has been spared his reckless sending off on the stroke of half-time against Dartford.

Any club looking for players, look no further than Dover.

Due to financial difficulties they have asked their players to take a short term 20% pay cut which was promptly rejected by the players.

As a consequence all their squad have been made available for a free transfer.

The players have been told that if a solution can't be found by the end of August the club will be made insolvent and cease to trade.

And their aim "was" a place in the English Football League!

Despite being in my beloved land of "The Man of Kent", one would think that the 158 miles round trip to London before continuing on nowadays to such places as Chesterfield, Halifax, Hartlepool, Torquay, Wrexham and Yeovil would be a real killer. Maidenhead is just a 206 miles round trip!

But previous Dover clubs, playing in either local leagues or the Kent League until 1959, folded in 1901, 1909. 1933 and 1947 before the next club became a member of the Southern League in 1959 and remained in that league until folding in 1983.

So Dover Athletic which took over Dover's Southern League allocation for the 1983/4 season, have historically done very well. Even if they fold this month, they will have survived a year longer than any previous Dover football club!

And if they do fold ... how many more clubs will do so by the end of October?

Dorking have announced a squad of 24 players for next season.

Apart from having to leave 8 players out of their match day squad (injuries apart) they must have a rather large wage bill.

I actually made it into town yesterday so called into my local for a swift drink.  Unfortunately, none of the people with inside knowledge re The Wanderers were in, so I can't elaborate any further.
