The Farnborough debacle rumbles on.

Now 3 games postponed and the urgent appeal hearing is not being held until the 17th August.

Also Spencer Day saying he can't understand why the Bond is being imposed because the club are solvent with no debts.

Latest 'local' press....

With the Hereford farce of last season, I would say it is imperative the league gets the bond to reimburse those out of pocket teams who will have played Farnborough when they will fold mid season.

Knowing a good number of true Farnborough fans, they cant wait to get rid of Day before he kills the club completely.

I noticed that a certain striker Elliot Buchanan, who many fans said in the summer wasn't good enough for Slough scored a hat-trick for Bishops Stortford yesterday in the National League South [Conference South as was] !

Now where is that prolific Sean Sonner playing?

Beginners luck   :D

Strange that he wasn't wanted by the new manager at Staines and then goes to another Conference South club. Time will tell for the nomadic Mr Buchanan.

Actually his form improved under Nicky Forster but some players fit in and some don't, for whatever reason.

Personally,I've always rated Elliot Buchanan but it's like any striker, they all have lulls in form but lot of time it's down to the tactics employed and the faith a manager shows in the player, which makes the difference.

Buchanan was with us for one season 2009/2010 and scored a goal every two games.

Credit goes to Steve Bateman for getting him to play for a team in the Central division and our chairman I suppose, who must of footed the bill !

Funny enough,I see similarities between Elliot and our new striker Lewis Putman. Both are instinctive anywhere near the goal mouth and will shoot. Both can turn a player and have a good turn of pace. Also both can play out wide.

Lewis on Saturday seemed to be working well down the left side and put some good crosses in but do we want our goal threat out wide?

This same scenario happened when Elliot was at our club, with the exception being that Steve Bateman put Elliot purposely out wide to play a wing role, where I don't believe that our managers necessarily wanted that to happen with Puts but it just occurred naturally, as he is left footed and found space there.

However, with Chris Henry's departure, this will throw up a conundrum because Jake and Wazza are right footed and while both can fill in on the left, both tend to bring the ball back on their right foot to zip the ball in, which invariably slows the play down or the cross fails to come in.

Which leads to a possibility that Lewis Putman may also end up playing wide left.

I might be wrong but something tells me that before Buchanan came to us he was in the football wilderness having had time out not knowing which way to go to resurrect his football career.

I'm guessing that Bateman persuaded him to sign knowing that it was for one season only due to Buchanan wanting to play football full time if possible.

I certainly hope Putts doesn't get shoved out wide to provide the ammunition for other players as IMO it would be a waste of a natural goalscorer.

We need our strikers to work together to form a partnership rather than as two individuals.

That will please the bookies in the Arlesey area! I owe an apology to forum readers I posted recently that Elliot Buchanan was playing at York Road on Wednesday  Turns out it was tonight  Elliot did score against Maidenhead.

  • 2 weeks later...

With Wealdstone having injuries to their goalkeepers, seems they've signed Shane Gore from Chesham United on dual registration terms. Funny enough I thought they may have approached Slough for the loan of Luke Williams.

Talking of Luke, I never realised he was only 19 years of age. He's going to have his work cut out getting the No 1 jersey back off Mark Scott, at the moment but it's great to have two quality keepers to call on.

I wonder how long we will be able to hang on to Luke, as I can't see him wanting to be a second string for long and someone's bound to come knocking.

I wouldn't have thought Luke has either recovered enough from Glandular Fever or had the match practice to play for Wealdstone in the Connie South.

On the plus side he's very young and still learning, it just boils down to whether he's happy to bide his time.

Once he's over his illness and firing on all cylinders I'd guess that he will duel reg with another club.

Yes Luke is still not 100% well, he has trained with us 3 times now, and is slowly getting better, but glandular fever can be quite a debilitating illness, something I have experienced first hand when I was 17.

At present we have a couple of clubs asking about his availability, and initially we will look to get him out on loan, to get games, but only when he feels well enough to do so, which he doesn't at this stage.

I see the Bros. Deeney are playing for bottom of the table Arlesey in the Southern Central this season.

That's one of those ideal football match-ups - thoroughly unpleasant players at an equally unpleasant club. Reminds of when Crystal Palace had the odious Trevor Francis as their manager or when Dirty Leeds appointed Colin (Warnock).
