A couple of non league snippets

Only just seen that Francis Armartey has been let go of. Bit of a strange one to me,with the claim we are 'top heavy' with strikers,  as Ryan Bird looks more likely to start as a defender than a striker, Ben Harris has injury problems and is often in and out of the side, Manny Williams is being used sparingly and isn't getting any younger and Dan Roberts looks likely that he will be snapped up by a higher team,if he keeps playing well.

I know the 4-5-1 is currently the favoured formation but this strikes me as a way to contain the opposition more than actually offer dynamic attacking play.

I'm all for freshening the team up with one or two new players but I would have opted for another replacement striker to come in and another midfielder in to replace Simon Dunn in the squad but I'm disappointed we've chosen to let Francis go, as I thought he had a lot to offer and that we hadn't given him much of a look in, since he came back from his loan at Hendon.

I thought we should have given him  a lot more game time with Dan Roberts up front than we have, and this is why I'm disappointed with Francis's departure but it's been done now, so we shall have to wait and see, if it pans out to be the right call.

Real shame it’s not worked out. He has raw talent but with the limited game time and the need for a longer sequence of games I guess this was on the cards. Just hope (obviously in a purely selfish way) he’s not one of those names you hear about and making it into the pro game! I’m guessing he wasn’t on contract so no fee involved although maybe some sell on was agreed? So with 1 or 2 coming in I’m guessing they won’t be strikers, so what positions? Can’t see it being defence either so maybe a creative midfielder and/or winger?

Am I the only fan who thinks we should have kept Francis for a good while longer?

I've heard a few murmurings at our games, that Francis is lazy and his attitude doesn't win him friends but to me I think he has bags of potential and besides those sorts of things can be worked at, after all he is only young.

I agree with the vast majority of Bakes and Unders decisions when it comes to players but I don't on this one [NB- when they let Matt Lench leave for Wealdstone!] but perhaps a fee is involved and too hard for the club to turn down in it's current form. Whatever, us fans have to accept it but it doesn't mean I have to like it.

Dartford's Sanchez Ming has had his red card overturned.

So a gentle shove on a match official & some abuse is now ok ? (it was not violent) surprised they even appealed

Not had time to check the laws but there is somewhere the offence of Laying hands on an official & verbal abuse

Couldn't agree more, Banny. Seems a bizarre turn of events.

Perhaps it was joint decision?

I'm sure Francis wanted to play in most games and at his age and stage of development it can only be to his benefit if he plays on a regular basis at somewhere like H&Y.

No you’re not.

But young players are only going to improve with game time, and with us favouring a 4-5-1 & him being behind Roberts & Harris in the pecking order it didn’t look to me like he was going to be getting 90 minutes very often.

In his 14 appearances for us this season he has only started 3 times, and only played the full 90 minutes once.

He did look very quick & skilful (his multi step over & shot to far post parried by the keeper for Lench to tap in was a highlight this season) & he is a goal scorer at National South level (4 goals in 10 appearances at the end of last season when he was starting regularly, a brilliant one at Concord & the winner at Woking).

Personally, I think we will hear about him doing very well in the future, & I would have preferred to see him get match time out on loan, but maybe that wasn’t a viable option.

Just listened to the post match interview from Paul Doswell after their 0-0 draw at Chippenham.

He blames missed chances and the poor state of the pitch for only getting a draw.

He also said that their their top scorer Ayunga will be back next week plus they will be making two more signings to freshen up their squad.

Yes RR  lots of posts none slagging of the ref  One of the few with both brains and balls  One guy who has watched football for 40 yrs has never known both managers and both goalkeepers to be booked!

Most posts say Dorking were the better team for most of the game and could/should have got something if they'd  been fair and clean

The Dorking manager is founder chairman and manager of the club and can get away with saying almost anything

Lower down the pyramid, Berkhamstead have signed ex Chesham midfielder Oran Swales. Cliff Hercules son, Max got the man of the match for Aylesbury United 0-6 win over Coleshill, with two goals.

At step 3 Beaconsfield continue to have a torrid time and got beat 2-0 by Farnborough. Dorchester are doing even worse and got beat 0-5 at home by Salisbury and look destined for the drop.

Comment from the Hemel forum:

" New man Dobson played with a look of "what the hell have I done joining this shower" "

The Hemel manager has said that the playoffs are no longer possible and he thinks they are in a relegation battle   surely not

Amazing post match rant from the Dorking manager slagging the ref off big time after their 2-1 loss to Weymouth.

I await with interest, his comments in the Dorking Advertiser next Thursday.

Marc has never been known to hold back !!
