A couple of non league snippets

H&Ws problem is that they are  more likely to lose or draw a home game than win Just two home wins out of six and one of a very few teams who have more away points then home points

Unluckily for them yesterday Braintree are another of the veryfew so far performing better away from home

The stats for the Havant v Braintree match had Havant having 13 shots on target, 10 shots off target, a missed penalty and 8 corners! Braintree had 4 shots on target, 3 shots off target and 2 corners, and yet Braintree scored 3 goals to Havant's one goal.

No wonder Paul Doswell was frustrated and flabberghasted by Havant's loss!

Further proof that it's quality not quantity that counts.

Mark West at Thame United has snapped up forward Ryan Blake from Chesham and he scored for them yesterday.

Steve Bateman's Berkhamstead sit top of the table in their league and won away from home at Wantage 0-7 yesterday.

Our loanee from last season, Tommy Wood, scored two headers for Leatherhead in their extraordinary 5-5 away draw with Worthing in the Isthmian Premier division.

Ryan Blake is far too good for that level. Either that or he has gone down hill over the last few seasons.

Yes, Steve Bateman seems to have put a very good squad together. A couple of names I recognize in their squad are Lewis Toomey and the infamous ex rebel Danny Murphy.

You’re thinking of the current Forest Green Rovers manager. Unfortunately for Windsor this is the lesser namesake.

They’re bang in form after a slow start, much like ourselves. I’m too surprised as even though they were relegated from the league above I thought they’d be mid table or below. Although it’s still early days.

Ah, so it's Cooper Mark 2 not the more well known one.

It might be worth mentioning that Wantage are rock bottom of the league beaten in every game and with a huge negative GD I think we must wait a bit longer to see what SB has put together

It might be a bit early but I can go by the fact that they are top after 6 games with 4 wins and 2 draws.

Reading rebel - what makes Danny Murphy an ‘infamous’ ex rebel?!? 181 appearances for a side that consistently flirted with promotion seems quite a good return to me.

Sorry to butt into the conversation, Radders, but like me, you are obviously a fan of Danny Murphy. On a negative, he seemed easily led by his teammates and would moan at officials, which must have counted against him at the end of his Rebels journey here but on his footballing ability, I thought he was an excellent left back/wing back and had a great engine as a player, so much so that he could have easily been kept, when Bakes and Unders arrived at our club.

To be fair to Bakes and Unders, they probably thought it was best to 'clean the decks with a new broom' and stick with players they knew, given Slough's disciplinary record at the time. Keeping Dave Woozley and Sean Fraser wasn't a huge gamble for them but Ed Smith's volatile temperament was, however, his acumen on the field of play and his goals counteracted his negatives.  Under Steve Bateman, Slough had a talented group of players under his tutelage but for me as a group of players we had too many bad apples in the barrel to really make the best cohesive unit out of them and that fact was one of the main reasons [ but not entirely] why promotion never materialized.

Danny Murphy and a couple of others back then ie Stuart Swift, Danny Burnell ,weren't bad apples on their own but when in the team together they used to get embroiled in other teammates disputes, which in turn led to their football ability suffering. Pity because we had a good array of talent under Steve Bateman, and really should have achieved more.

Perhaps infamous was the wrong word to use but all I can say is it has nothing to do with his football for Slough.

Got to feel sorry for the manager and players at Wantage Town, they are newly promoted into the Southern Division 1 Central and so far they've played 6 lost 6, have got 2 goals for and 24 against! and in the last two games including last night have been resoundingly thrashed 7-0      [albeit against the top two sides].

I think you could hazard a guess, that they will need a few experienced new recruits to turn their fortunes around, sooner rather than later!
