A couple of non league snippets

You’re not half wrong there Matt! But it’s also frustrating that he couldn’t have realised this 5, 10, 15 years ago when it was obvious then they had no support or potential. So he has wasted millions of his personal wealth and all that time for not much in return. Sure you have to give him credit for trying every trick he could but he must have known deep down it wasn’t going to succeed? Sounds like he’s ready to walk away which if happens they could plummet down the leagues.

Doesn't most of their revenue come from their connection with Arsenal?

Obviously not enough to compete with the well supported clubs but possibly just enough to keep their heads afloat at that level.

No their Chairman said in the interview that was the myth but wasn’t true. They gain most of their money through their academy which is one of the biggest in the country.

This is an interesting read - the thoughts of Boreham Wood chairman Danny Hunter on the club’s continued low attendances: https://www.borehamwoodfootballclub.co.uk/uncategorized/lack-of-support-a-concern/

Very interesting article, Matt.

While I have some sympathy for the predicament Danny Hunter has, it could also be levelled at him that it has been his vanity project, too, and that is why he has overlooked the prospects of this particular club.

It's not a lie to say, he often get's more publicity than the club but you also can't say he hasn't raised the profile of Borehamwood football club, or that he hasn't put his heart and soul into getting 'the Wood' promoted, so for that he undoubtedly deserves praise.

It just strikes me that he is a victim of his own making by over extending finances, on what in reality is a small, non league club, who have been badly supported for years. As I'm a non-league football fan I don't want to see any club go to the wall but some of these big time Charlie's, who become owners of clubs, often get it wrong by spending big, rather than 'cutting their cloth accordingly' and then moan about it when it doesn't work out.  Is he a victim or self deluded in this matter?

Those Slough fans who stuck with the club through thick and thin in the ground sharing years know what is important when it comes to keeping a club afloat, and I'm sure those diehard Borehamwood fans are realistic in what can be attained but it's often the chairmen with inflated ego's that get it wrong because they pander to the wishes of the bandwagon jumpers/masses, who in truth care little about the welfare of their 'community' club and just keep wanting more and more money to justify their thirst for glory.

I think Borehamwood would be better off dropping down one or two divisions, given their attendances.

Scott Donnelly last season's captain at Hayes and Yeading, who fell out big time with their manager Paul Hughes, looks like he's kissed and made up with him, as he's re-joined them.

Ex Wealdstone and Hampton/ Richmond fc centre midfielder Ricky Wellard has signed for Salisbury.

Our own ex Rebel Jamie McClurg has left Bracknell Town to join Binfield fc.

Due to an expected large crowd the bank holiday game between Weymouth and Wealdstone will be segregated.

Entrance to the bar will not be permitted to away supporters and no alcohol will be available in the away end.

Seems a bit drastic.

I take it there is animosity between the two clubs.

Yes, I should imagine police advice erring on the side of caution, also I think Weymouth have a few of the younger element who get a bit rowdy as per their game with Maidstone.

It does seem like there is a slippery slope starting to creep in non league football by demonising the opposition teams and its supporters.

We all travel from near far  to support our team it is an all day experience to enjoy and because of the 00.1% of mindless idiots at some games the other 99% have to suffer at the end of the day it is entertainment.

The two words that are always used if you go to a shop pub cinema sport ext to make your customers guests day that extra special is Added Value and by denying you all the amenities on offer that means your denying your customers guesrs all the benefits on offer. They the club inturn are losing out on extra income the same customers guests will say lm not going back there again at a time when clubs are trying to increase attendances. Back to the Concord game there clubhouse would of been empty if they said away supporters can not drink in it losing out greatly on extra income and enjoyment.

The best Clubhouse experience has to be the fa trophy game away to Stevenage borough in 1998 non stop singing by both sets of supporters in the bar nobody wanted to leave to watch the game but we did.

We at Slough are very welcoming to everyone may it never change.

I'm still trying to get over the fact that you've made a post that is more than a few words long  ?

Nevertheless a good post from you SD.
