From the reports I’ve read it was approximately 25,000 LO, 5,000 AFCF. In fact Chertsey took more (6,000!) which astonishing considering their average is around 150! That’s like Slough taking 33,000!

Like most clubs it's amazing the support that comes out of the woodwork on these big occasions.

RR surprised  you have not reported on the latest news the Braintree Manager quit yesterday in line for the Aldershot post.

It's pure speculation SD but nevertheless thanks for the info it's much appreciated  ?

He could be in for the Aldershot job or the Wealdstone vacancy.

Don’t know the full story but it just shows there are too many people out there who shouldn’t be in charge of owning football clubs as they don’t have a clue. All that history down the drain and fans who have supported the club all their lives now have to raise a new club from scratch all because of gross mismanagement.

All that history down the drain?

The two previous Gateshead clubs were dissolved in 1973 after seventy-four years and in 1977 after four years. The current one will either be dissolved after forty-two years or survive but a new club has already been formed by disillusioned supporters.

Are you saying 42 years of history is not worth saving? The current club isn’t well supported so I don’t know what this new club can muster in ways of support and besides they’ll have to start 3 or 4 levels lower and may never reach the current level.

I never see it quite that way, the business structures may come and go but clubs live on in their continued supporter base and league presence. We're a phoenix club too remember, who like to talk of being 122 years old! I certainly think we're the same Slough Town I started watching in the early 70s.

On that basis, I wish Gateshead Soul well as they seem to be the heart and soul of the club, and think they have 120 year history!

In the case of any new Gateshead It’ll just be a group of fans with past memories of a club they used to support. It’ll be a different club name, identity/badge, ground, league and clubs so that’s not really a continuation of the same club.
