I know it's all about money for the FA/Wembley but wouldn't it have made more sense to have had the game played at some where closer to both clubs like Anfield etc.

The problem with this is that ticket sales for this match ("Vanarama Big Day Out") went on sale as far back as January, advertised as being at Wembley with lower prices to attract neutrals.

Well they don't book it a week before, probably preseason.

I think Woking need to seriously strengthen their squad if they don’t want to come straight back down. An average side overall in the 2 games against us. They obviously have the support and potential as I’m sure there weren’t more than 500 from Welling today.

Hi "Rebel and a Saint ". I've only just seen your reply to my earlier post about the poor attendance at the National League play off match yesterday. I  was trying to say that Salford and Fylde were two teams on the verge of getting into THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE, the match was at WEMBLEY   so for clubs on the brink of such a massive achievement  for only 8,000 to turn up to support them was poor, even if the prices quoted on this forum to see the game were ridiculous. That's my humble opinion.

I saw what you were saying, but your comparison to our playoff final last year isn't really valid. Yes you could argue that the attendance could've been more but their combined average is about 4200. For a game a long way from either team's ground, I'd say 8000 is pretty good.

Woking will have to strengthen considerably but wouldn't that be the same with most sides that got promoted to the National League?

Being the second best team in the division I wouldn't say they were an average side.

I did say an average side against us. Although reading most forums in this league during the season a lot of fans said they weren’t great against them either, certainly no where near Torquay.

Very even home game against them and yes we were the better side at their place but the table doesn't lie.

No team can be good every game and it's the sides that find a way to win when poor that often get into the play-offs and then promoted.

Such pessimists  ?

The M 25/A.3 junction at Wisley is shut more often than it's open.

If my family are travelling from, Dorking out your way, we always go the scenic cross-country route. Much prettier and usually quicker.

Even on the Woking forum, there are fans who dont rate Alan Dowson and his team. I'm with you on this, Glen STFC, they may have finished second in the table and have got through the playoffs but their best form was from the start of the season to about February, after that they have struggled for points and chopped and changed personel to arrest their slide. I think they were fortunate to play a weakened, tired Wealdstone side, who clearly run out of steam after playing Bath City in the first play off game. By all accounts, Woking's 1-0 win against Welling, could of gone either way and seems to have been two teams cancelling each other out,in a game with not much goalmouth action.

I think Alan Dowson deserves credit for getting Woking in the play offs and second in the table in his first season at the helm but they are going to need an influx of players to do well in the National  League, as like you I wasn't overly impressed by them when Slough played them. They have a good core of players there but Alan Dowson still has his work cut out to find the right formula with them. Will be interesting to see who they sign and which players he releases.

It doesn't matter how you do it as long as you get there in the end.

Their form might have dipped but they still managed a way to get over the line which is all that counts, for that they deserve all the credit going.

Any team that gets into the National League will need an influx of players and Dowson has gone on record as saying he's got plenty of contacts to do just that so we'll see who he signs.

Given Woking's resources, I hardly think it's a surprise them finishing near the top.

Didn't know you had a soft spot for Woking, RR.

I don't like them one bit but sometimes you've just got to give credit where it's due.

Having said that you're right in the fact that given their resources it would of been a bit of a disaster if they failed.

In his interview I think Dowson said he would have quit if they weren't promoted.
