I’ve not seen Tarpey live either but I don’t need to just look at his record in the league above tells you all you need to know.

You've only got to look at the videos when he was playing for M'head to know that Dave Tarpey was the top striker in that division at the time.

Having said that Dave Tarpey hasn't yet regained his old sparkle since his ACL injury.

Not saying he won't but he might have been a costly gamble to take a chance on.

Bit late with this but just noticed that Ryan Hope has signed for Hendon [19th January].

I wonder if his agent got a cut of the transfer fee  :cheesy(2):

Shame, though, as I thought he had potential and a player who would have progressed with Slough.

Sometimes it works out for the better, when a young player learns his craft at different clubs. Over a good few seasons I've been watching out for Dylan Kearney who happens to be banging goals in for Harrow Borough. I first saw him when he was playing for Hayes and Yeading, when they were ground sharing with Beaconsfield, he looked totally out of his depth for H+y but I liked the fact that he was a trier.

I actually wrote on the Hayes forum at the time, that he should drop down and go to Uxbridge fc and get experience playing regularly with them and learning under a wily old non-league campaigner, manager Tony Choules, and blow me that came true ! That is what happened. Spooky! ha ha!

Since then he has gained in confidence and has found a way of putting the ball in the net regularly for Harrow Borough.

To me I don't write off players just because they fail at Slough/initial first club. It's a bit like Dejon Noel Williams, who we had on loan. I didn't think he was as bad as many said he was. I'm not saying he was ready to play first team football for Slough but I did see something in him, that under the right guidance he could be an asset for another team.

The trouble is at Slough, with where we are currently at, we don't have the time to mould players. Hence why I say it can workout for the better, when players drop down divisions.

Saw him play against Beaconsfield last weekend, and he wasn't good at all. We took to trying to count how many times he passed forwards, and it wasn't many in the 90 minutes!

I take it you mean Ryan Hope?  The thing is, it was only his second game for Hendon and his first one starting from the off. Hendon have been under a poor run of results and according to the Hendon match report, they purposely tried to play it tight in midfield against Beaconsfield.

The next match against Salisbury which was a 2-2 draw, says Ryan put in a low cross from the left wing to set up S. Hippolyte- Patrick to score, and also had a fierce shot when he cut in from the right wing which the keeper made an excellent save from and pushed it over the bar, so I think it's early days to judge him at Hendon just yet. Even on the Hendon forum, one ardent Hendon fan raves about Ryan Hope and thinks manager Jimmy Gray has uncovered a gem.

Have to agree that Ryan Hope was OK at passing sideways and backwards but didn't IMO create much going forwards.

Also suffered from delusions of grandeur getting himself an agent and then touting himself about for the best offer which now seems laughable.

I think your first sentence is harsh on Ryan Hope's play at Slough. I agree he wasn't a flair player but I thought his closing down, speed around the field, general high tempo, tackling, passing and confidence for a young player was very good. He got better with every game but as you say he was badly advised, and got above his station but we all make mistakes when we are young, don't we?  Learning from them is the key.

Quite often players fail at certain clubs only to go on to be successful at other clubs.

Not sure why, possibly some players need to play in certain systems or they are asked to play out of position etc.

I see Elliott Buchanan is still at Kingstonian in the Bostik Premier but unusually for him he's only 9th in the scoring charts with 11 goals.

Top scorer in the Bostik Prem is Bognor striker James Muitt with an impressive 18 goals, unfortunately he lives in Brighton.

Are you fishing to find out what striker we've signed, RR? ha ha !

No news on any of our possible signings yet, the suspense is killing me ! ?

I forgot that Buchanan was at Kingstonian. It only came to light when Scott Davies moved there and I started looking at the players they had brought in.

Have to say for the money they've spent on players like Dean Inman, Elliot Buchanan and now adding Scott Davies to their squad they really should be doing better.

On the subject of strikers, Potters Bar beat Kingstonian 2-1 the other night and looking at the PB team one player that I thought would go on to better things was Josh Hutchinson.

Wealdstone signed him from PB couple of seasons back but for some reason never really made it at Wealdstone.

If there are going to be any announcements I would anticipate them coming after tonight’s training session.

Agree with you, they've got some decent players there but have they got the right manager?

He obviously knows good non-league players but moulding them into a team and getting results takes time, ingenuity and skill. Certainly doesn't look like it's going to plan, at the moment.
