A couple of non league snippets

Pretty sure Lenchy being a “maverick” as you describe him ? had absolutely nothing to do with us letting him go, not quite sure what constitutes a maverick however ha ha.

As mentioned before we let Lenchy go for a few reasons, and none to do with his footballing abilities, was purely our decision based on what we felt was right for the team and changing room and one we do not regret making.

There are always players that people wish we had not let go, however if you look over the last 5 and a bit years have any of them gone on to better things? I can’t really recall many if any, maybe you could say Alex Brown when we let him go he went and played for a year at Chesham in the league above, but then pretty much retired at the end of that season at the level, however in our opinion at the time he was not a better option than Foulser, Wooze and Guy who all helped get us promoted.

We are bound to get some wrong in our management careers, however I would say our record so far Is pretty good. ?

Neil, you and Jon have to make tough decisions on players and largely I agree with what you've done but just because Matt Lench is no longer playing for Slough Town or getting in the Wealdstone first X1 doesn't mean he's suddenly become a bad player.

As managers you get the inside track on players, as supporters we do not, but just because a manager chooses to get rid of a player, it doesn't mean that another manager can't get the best out of that player.

The mere fact that you head hunted Matt Lench in the first place from Hitchin and how he performed for Slough when he got here, makes me believe that he would be an asset for another team.

From my view, I wouldn't mind him back in our squad, though, I know it's not going to happen. Considering he can play in any midfield position and can score goals, I would say he is an asset but I'm only judging him on what he does on the pitch NOT what he's like off it.

3spirit - I suspect your comment about him being "in our SQUAD" maybe why he now plays for another team.

We have an excellent group of players, but they all seem to understand that there is rotation. If you as a player want 100% first team football, you'll go elsewhere. And fair play to them for that.

Will be interesting to see how he gets on when we play them.

That's not the reason he joined Wealdstone. Like any player he won't be happy not playing in the first eleven and time will tell how long he is prepared to wait for his chance. He won't be short of offers if he was to leave.

I think this rotation business at Slough is a bit of a misnomer. Bakes and Unders know who their best players are but with the squad they have they do have options to freshen up the line up, when they want, which can only be a good thing.

Slough Flyer, did you like Matt Lench as a player?

I think a lot of us remember the good form Matt Lench was in during the first half of last season, and that fantastic hat-trick at Gainsborough...... but do many remember the red cards in our two biggest away matches of the season, the injury (/holiday?) from early December to mid January, and just a solitary goal in his 20 league matches when he returned?

Embarassing result for Chesham tonight lost 7-0 away to Beaconsfield !

The sooner they get a new manager the better.

Just to think all those years as rivals and being our bogey team, now look how far apart the 2 clubs are both on and off the pitch. They still have on paper a decent squad so something very wrong is going on and if they don’t make some drastic changes they could be staring at relegation.

3spirit - I did like Matt Lench as a player. Looked a bit lost on the wing, but centrally looked very good. I wouldn't have him in our side in front of Davies, Togwell or Dunn currently, but was very good for us last season.

As for the Chesham result, it was embarrassing tonight for them. It is hands down the worst Chesham side we have ever seen. Tony Mendy scored a 3 in the first half and Chesham looked beaten almost from the first whistle. They still have a few decent names in their squad but looked clueless as Beaconsfield demolished them.

Absolutely nailed on for relegation unless something really dramatic happens soon.

Just looked at Chesham's team for tonight and compared with who Beaconsfield put out, they shouldn't be losing 7-0. Lack of confidence, lack of fight, team morale poor, and rudderless management brings a result like that.

Will take a bit of turning around, whoever Chesham appoint as manager now but certainly not an impossible task. Agree they still have some good players there and they have a couple of useful players out injured. That said I can see at least 6 players, I would get rid of from the 15 they had tonight.

They reckon that there has been 30 applicants for the Chesham job,so they should be able to get in a fairly experienced manager to take on the task. I wonder if that Brad Quinton would be interested in it,as he's got the elbow from Braintree and while it's a drop back down a couple of levels,he did do a great job at Enfield at the equivalent level, and with Conference South openings so hard to come by, it might be a position he could be up for.

Always liked Alex Brown, but one player I wish we had a bit younger, playing for us in the higher levels (and would actually be willing to do the travelling) would have been Woozy !!!

Jim Cooper has to be worth a shout for Chesham.

Think he lives Essex way, so may not want the travelling.

I think Steve Bateman might be in with a shout, if he wanted it. An ex Chesham player, who is good at rebuilding teams, has a very good contact list and a steady eddie manager rather than a flash in the pan type. Not saying he would get them promoted but he would make them competitive, he's good at rediscovering forgotten players and is a sound sort of bloke. He's done well at Hemel,Slough and currently with Berkhamstead. I would have thought he would be in the running for the job.

MOTM and hat-trick man Tony Mendy banging in the goals.

You never know perhaps he's matured and got that chip off his shoulder.

I wonder if he's still playing Sunday morning football?
