A couple of non league snippets

Some serious events at the 0-0 draw between Gloucester and Torquay.

Flares thrown onto the pitch and Gary Owers has coffee thrown in his face and climbs into the crowd to confront the culprit who is eventually taken away by the police.

Reported in my local rag

IMO Too early to call since a lot of the early positions are determined by who teams have so far played Woking have played teams currently 2nd 3rd and 5th (including their defeat) but also 13th 15th 17th 20th and 21st Also 5 of their wins are by the lowest possible margin So yes I agree they are going to be in the mix but don't see them as runaways yet

Just read a report from a neutral ground hopper on the Woking v Billericay game and his report say's that old Glen Tampering was an embarrassment to Ricay yesterday shouting and swearing from start to finish at the officials and players.

Apparently at the end of the game Tampering ran up to the Ref and did the finger waving in his face, unfortunately like so many Refs he was weak and let him get away with it.

Useful defender Harold Joseph has been released by St Albans.

Torquay have signed two loanees from Bristol City to try and stop their poor run.

Two ex-Rebels in the lower leagues, got on the score sheet at the weekend, Scott Harris with a hat-trick for Bedfont Sports, and Steve Duff who bagged two for Camberley.

3Spirit. According to reports from both sides the two loanees were the best players for Torquay especially first half but they only have them short term Sounds like this game was a mirror image of the own Both forums say HH should have been 3or 4 up at halftime Torquay played much better second half and went on to win 2-0 Still only 3 conceded in 8 games

Gary Owers, the Torquay manager seems to be getting a lot of flak from their fans, for his tactics and team selection, and he is definitely under pressure to get results. The trouble is, many of the Torquay faithful seem to think they are still a professional league club, and are finding it hard to accept teams in the Conference South as worthy competition.

The way some of their fans are carrying on ,you would think they were bottom of the table !

Being a full time ex league club their fans expect them to be, if not at the top then at the very least challenging, which considering the money they are shelling out is not unreasonable.

Their biggest problem IMO is their decision to stay full time. This has meant they have managed to attract the worst of the full time players instead of the cream of the part time players.

I agree with what you say here,RR,and I also cannot see the inside track that a regular Torquay fan would know but looking from the outside in, and going by their forum, most of their fans seem to think they are the Man United of non league football. The mere fact that they were relegated last season and for three seasons before that, finished in the lower reaches of the Conference table hardly strikes at success.

Whether Gary Owers is up to the task of changing fortunes around for Torquay, only time will tell but some Torquay fans are living in cloud cuckooland and think you wave a magic wand and everything is then rosy in the garden. They seem delusional and unrealistic.
