A couple of non league snippets

Elliott Buchanan was popular with quite a few of our supporters. Some will say he was wasted playing out wide by Steve Bateman.

IMO he was a skillful player who could be a match winner on his day but, as you say, hopefully not the forward we are hopefully getting.

When he was with us he was at his best/coming into his prime but I'd say he passed it now and wouldn't add anything significant to our squad. Am looking forward to hear/see who we're signing as it appears 4 new players is the aim. Including our long term injured players hopefully all fully fit with a full pre-season behind them we could be looking at 7-8 'new' players meaning possibly 3,4,5 making way but yes I know we can't name them!

Earlier in the season under Marcus Gayle at Staines, the fans on their forum were moaning about Elliot Buchanan and his overall play.

However, since Nicky Forster has become manager,Elliot has been banging in the goals. So I cannot see him being released especially as they are going to be playing in a lower division next season.

If he did become available,I think we would be mad not to approach him.To me,a good manager will get the best from him.

Having said that,I'm not as convinced that he is the type of striker we need currently but seeing that Elliot can play wide, too,he can easily play in a variety of roles and his experience is second to none in the pedigree of the manager's he's played under.

Also he has bound to have learnt a trick or two in his forward play because of this.

So I certainly wouldn't write him off and you never know what works unless you try it.

Having the skills Elliot Buchanan and Ed Smith to call on in our squad would be a big bonus,to my mind but each to their own.

He is not a target of ours.

I appreciate he's not a target for you or Unders. You also have the advantage of knowing what you've got to spend on a striker and of course, the type of striker you want for the squad.

Good strikers are in demand and hard to come by,though, and had Elliot been released by Staines, given his scoring record, experience, versatility and personable nature,I would have thought he would be well worth an approach, even if it was only for a close-up look by yourselves,to ascertain if he would fit into the squad ie personality and what he could bring to the team.

Elliot aside, hopefully, you've got another gold nugget of a striker lined up for us ! :)

Who knows Stuart ;-)

There will be a statement going out at some point in the next day or so, but afraid it will be a quiet summer for most, as we plan to make no announcements on players until we come back for pre season.

The competitive nature at this level, means we will have to keep our cards very close to our chest...

Would a player like Elliott Buchanan give us anything different to what we've already got?

A good point,RR, but sometimes it's worth snapping up someone of his calibre when they become available but obviously it's always going to be what we can afford and balancing the books.

As we both know,a strong, big target man or a tall pacy forward[or a combination of both] would be better but they don't grow on trees!

In the Maidenhead Advertiser today,Alan Devonshire is said to be having a big clear out of players from the Maidenhead squad.

Perhaps Slough can gain out of this?
