A couple of non league snippets

Well Oxford City certainly don’t have silly (or any!) money after having to release players they didn’t want to. Salisbury have already signed his strike partner Pablo so that may be an option. Wouldn’t have though Bath would be loaded but as he lives in Oxfordshire it’s not too far. Surprised Chippenham aren’t in the market as they appear to have some cash.

Chippenham have signed have well so far. I think they will be dark horses for a shot at the play offs, might be one season too early for them but they look to be going in the right direction.

Hungerford look like they could be in for another season of struggle. Oxford City is a strange one, as they've let go some of their better players and only time will tell how the new incumbents do for them next season.

More importantly, GlenSTFC, how do you think Slough will fare?

I think Bakes and Unders are doing the right thing, in terms of squad morale, by keeping last season's squad together bar the one departure, though, for me our inactivity on the signing front has been exceedingly dull to the extreme.

I believe we will do ok-ish in the Conference South. As with all first seasons in a new division,it will be a learning curve.  Really looking forward to watching as many games as I can.

Our transfer dealings have been like us keeping it in the corner for the last 5 minutes hey Stuart!!!!

You mention inactivity on the signing front, however just because the players were with us last season, does not mean they would automatically be with us next season, some players were in high demand, so the fact we have not needed lots on the new signings front is really positive.

We have been very active in keeping one of the most successful Slough sides in years together, and it has kept Unders and I very busy, and alongside that I cant begin to tell you how many conversations we have had with players wanting to join the club.

There will be some high quality players pre season also, of which if we announced they were signing you would all be impressed, so just because we are not shouting about it like lots of teams, we are pretty content with where we are going to be 3rd of July when we start back.

Having said all that I expect us to announce a signing this weekend (player dependant)

Cheers for the update,Neil. You do know how to bore me, ha ha ! Only joking.

It's just seems this season, that Wealdstone,Woking, Hampton and quite few other clubs have gone signing mad, whereas we have let one of our better ones go, without signing anyone.

However, I'm sure all Slough fans know we are in safe hands, regards managing the squad.

Right, I've done my snivelling,creeping bit, I'm off !  :)

John Mills has told the Hereford Times that he had not intended to leave Edgar St but thought he had performed well enough to ask for a modest slight increase and this was turned down promptly Says he is still deciding where he's going next.

Oxford City were in the frame but it now seems that Brackley could be his next club.

Maybe some clubs have gone “signing mad” this summer because the squads they had last season were not good enough to achieve the goals they set themselves this time last year.

Fortunately we are in the opposite position.

Don't want to put you on the spot, Jon but now you've mentioned it, what are yours and Bakes aims for the team in the Conference South ie are we aiming for a place as high as we can, are we looking for mid table security, are you just going to take one game at a time and see how we go, or is the priority to keep out the relegation places and then see how far we can get, or are we seriously going to try for a play off spot?

As you said, we are in a fortunate position, in terms of the quality we have in the squad and that the players know each others game, and that the number of games we won in the final few months culminating with the play off wins was nothing short of fantastic.

However, the Conference South isn't going to be 'a stroll in the park', so while I think we can compete and upset a good few teams, it won't be 'plain sailing' and likely that we will be faced with losing more games than we did last season, so this will give the players a different obstacle to get over. Some are bound to fall by the way side.

So what is a realistic aim for this forthcoming season?

Oxford City have signed Kabongo Tshimanga, a striker from Conference North side Boston United, who also made 6 league appearances for MK Dons,

They have also signed left back Ben Jefford, who played 30 games in the Conference South for Welling Unied last season.

Good article with Bakes in the Non League Paper today, which answers my question about our ambitions in the Conference South this season.

Interesting piece on Torquay United,as well, about the problem of attracting full time players to play in the Conference South.

My heart bleeds for them !  ha ha !

No one knows how much he was on though? To be fair after scoring all those goals which have in effect has got Hereford promoted, asking for a rise isn’t out of order at all and seems strange the club didn’t appear overly bothered about keeping him. Be interested to see how well he does at Bath...

The story is that he could have got more from Salisbury but Bath resonated with him better He had several differences of opinion with Beadle towards the end of last season and wasn't picked a few times although not unfit
