A couple of non league snippets

I thought only reason mpi left was because we didn't use him hardly ever at all and he needed to play so didn't do that good a job keeping him happy

My view on this is, he was coming back from injury and when he came of the bench was excellent, but when he started a game there was no impact from him and didn't look that good. But time would of told but he wanted away to get games. Catch 22

The reason Charlie Mpi didn't look as good when he played a full game was that Steve Bateman didn't know how to play him.

As much as I like Steve,he didn't always get the best out of some bloody good players he brought to the club,He also favoured the Burnell / Sonner partnership at the time.

If Charlie had been mug,he wouldn't be playing at Hungerford now !  I think we were fortunate to have Charlie Mpi and Ben Abbey as subs at the time. To me they were both criminally under used.

All managers have favourites but sometimes Steve's choices defied logic.

Only ever had a plan "A" and did not know how to use different players for a plan "B" - that is why he has resorted to so many of the same faces at Aylesbury - plan "A" again.

Also wasted the likes of Mo and the rest the youth set up which the Trust invested in, even failed to use his own son fully.

The difference is that Jon and Neil will work out a plan for the players they have and come up with something, even if it is a plan "Z" for this seasons injuries, or if needed release or rest struggling players and bring in fresh faces.

Why is it all ways the manager thats wrong.

In the 22 game he was involved in he scored 1 goal in the same games Burnell scored 12 and Sonner scored 10. Even Abbey scored 5 in the same games. So I think Steve at the time was right how can you drop your 2 top scores at that time.

Look Epic Rebel,we all watch Slough games but every fan has his own take on the way they like the beautiful game to be played.

I admit that I wasn't a fan of the Danny and Sean partnership but that's not to say that at times, they played well together and of course, they scored more goals,as they played more often. That said Danny Burnell would have been my first choice striker at the time.Sean Sonner would have been my third choice striker out of the four forwards we had  but all of them would have been used throughout the season.

Also Charlie may have only scored one goal but his pace was electric and his introduction as a sub, often changed the way we had been playing. We missed him when he left. From my point of view we wasted Charlie's talent when he was at Slough.

Managers have to carry the can,as they are picking the team.Who should we blame that we never got promotion in five seasons under Steve? The ball boy? !  After all Bakes and Unders did it in their first season !

Yes,we know luck comes into it but I firmly believe that if we had a better tactical manager, with the players that Steve recruited

[to his credit] we would have been promoted sooner.

Having to good a team and playing loads of games every season, and the players have got to take a lot of the blame, take the season we did get promoted, out of all the cups early.

edit:-  as a club you need a cup run for the money, but something has to pay.

John Mills scored his 6th hat-trick of the season for Didcot yesterday and has now scored 43 goals in 41 games this season.

Perhaps we should push the boat out for a marquee signing up front like him or Lewis Putman for next season to play alongside Ed and Scott and possibly one other ?!

John Mills is 25 and has never played higher than division one football.

Seems a Conference North and a Conny South club were sniffing around earlier in the season but he decided to remain loyal to Didcot for this season.

Lewis Putman's career moves seem a bit strange. From Wealdstone to Hanwell to Aylesbury United.

I see from his Twitter feed that Jake Somerville has joined Burnham for the rest of the season.

Good to see him in our league again, and let's hope he can help us out on Saturday when they play Histon

I wonder what has happened to James Reading?

IMO along with the Histon and Corby keepers he is one of the best in the division.
