A couple of non league snippets

I expect Stony is still getting match fit after injuries from last season and game was nothing to write about.

We look a better side than Hungerford but as we all know its just pre season.

Last year Marine beat Frome 3 nil and I said they were nothing special but but had a very good season we have trouble beating them.

Marine play Banbury pre season.

How to win the league = play poorly and grind out a win.

RR we have found getting anything out of those sides very hard over the last few seasons.

We like watching the Rebels play attractive football but you was the first one on this forum saying if only our defence was tighter and hard to beat.

So if we play poorĺy grind out a result get 3 points to help us challenge for honours this season that means you will not be happy.

Getting the balance right is somewhat harder.

Now we are in Arbour Park with increased attendances, the expectation level of some of the fans for the team has rocketed.

While I know we have two very good managers and a very good squad, I think we can't expect to get everything right on the field of play, even now, but we will be able to address a lot of the issues we had last season.

I'm hoping that we can make Arbour Park a fortress over time, and that we can take sides apart with our dazzling football at home, when appropriate.

When away we should still show the enterprise and endeavour, as we have since Bakes and Unders have been at the helm but we will need to box a bit clever when encountering various things ie awkward, physical teams,

awful pitches, teams looking to counter attack fast etc etc.

We moved a long way on this last season as proved by our 5th placed finish. With the new signings [barring the goalkeeper] we should be better equipped to deal with these situations.

RD, not for the first time you seem to have got the wrong end of the stick.

My comment about 'how to win the league = play poorly and grind out a win' was aimed at your comment on us looking better than Hungerford despite them winning 2-1.

It was only a friendly but it sounds like despite winning 2-1 Hungerford didn't play that well.

Teams like Hungerford win games/leagues because they know how to grind out a result even when they don't play well.

BTW if it meant getting promoted I'd be more than happy if we won every game by grinding out a result.

On the Farnborough forum under the title 'ex player' there is a couple of photos of a certain Jake Somerville playing in front of a large crowd in Malaysia. Worth a look.

So no seats or covered standing, food or drink (not sure about toilets!!!). Hopefully it's not peeing it down! This must be the longest running saga in history... they must have lost so much support and it's must be a nightmare for the few they have left. The club doesn't help themselves in not being customer friendly and have a mountain to climb once they do have the ground fully open to entice and build up the support again.

Regarding Mills see my earlier comments regarding my Brother-in-Laws thoughts on him. Bill follows Hereford having lived down that way for 30 odd years (he was first introduced to me as my sisters boyfriend at The Dolphin and supported The Rebels for many years). Anyway he is currently casting doubts as to whether Mills will make it at Level 3. So he'll probably stuff us with a hat trick on 19 August!!

Chesham have made another very good signing in Adam Watkins ex Dunstable and Luton.

I don't think any player from last season has re signed for them.

No resignings for us may be a blessing in disguise. I believe we tried to keep 6 of last year's squad. Two (Young's and Blake) followed Andy Leese to Enfield for a lot more ££££, Wadkins to Slough, Crilley and Pearce have both stepped up to Conference South (both could be back as they don't look like getting in at their new clubs) and former Slough boy Adam Martin has earned himself a nice long ban for a red card after the last whistle of our last game last year, he'll probably end up at Enfield as well.

Chance to clear the squad out and bring some talented young players in and make a fresh go at the play offs.
