Wealdstone captain Jerome Okimo has left them to seek regular first team football.

Saw this and thought he’d be a great signing for us even at 34. He played nearly every game last season as captain too. He could certainly serve us very well for a couple of seasons but again wages are likely to to prove prohibitive (damn reddies!).

Impressive CV at this level and above captaining Wealdstone to the NLS title.

Lives relatively local as well and as you say would be a massive signing even at the age of 34.

Again as you say his wage demands would probably be a sticking point.

I find the comment about a 15-20 goal striker an interesting one. It goes without saying that all fans, and managers, want that for their club but it’s almost impossible to guarantee that with any player unless you are paying top top money.

Did you realise across the 21 teams last season only TEN players scored 15 goals or more! And of those players 6 are already going to be playing a higher level next season.

I could probably list another 10 players earning vast sums of money last season who did not reach the 15 goal mark.

Our policy will remain to sign players who want to play for Slough, who will do so for the right reasons and who will give everything for the club.

The problem is you’ve spoilt us all in the past Jon & :-

1. when you won your first promotion both Smith & Dyer scored more than 25 league goals

2. when you won your second promotion both Dobson & Flood scored more than 20 league goals

I suppose you could say that's one of the penalties for playing at a higher level.

Players expect/demand more money especially good strikers.

Does anyone know where Manny Duku is playing this season? Unfortunately he's probably too dear for Slough, more's the pity. I just noticed he was on the released players list from Havant, and haven't seen his name linked to anyone yet.

In one of his interviews Paul Doswell said that Duku would not be signing for another season because there were urgent things he had to deal with back home in the Netherlands.

Funnily enough in 2019 Duku joined Torquay and a few months later his contract was cancelled to allow him to return to the Netherlands with his young family. In a later interview Duku denied saying this and that this was a statement from Torquay and not from him.

Make of that what you will.

Morning all.

Rather hot out there today !

There is a documentary on the BBC Scotland channel on Sunday at  7.15pm that I will be watching.

It's about the Scotland under 18 team that won that age group's  European Championship in 1982, Scotland's only major international title.

I believe it is about Pat Nevin (ex- Chelsea ) , a member of that 1982  Scotland team trying to re-unite the other players from that tournament on the 40th anniversary of their success.

Now I'm not bringing this to your attention on here because I think that we have a lot of Scotland fan's on our forum !

I'm certainly not a member of the Tartan Army !

But one member of that victorious Scotland team back in !982 was a certain Gary McGinnis, who older Slough fans will remember played for The Rebels between  1996-1998.

I certainly do.

It is quite possible  that Gary might not even get a mention, or if he does it may be only a fleeting one, but I will still find it an interesting programme to watch.

This might be a ridiculous thing to type, but I have a distinct nagging memory from somewhere in the back of my mind that in those years 1996 -ish we had a player who flew down regularly to play for us from Scotland.

Was that Gary, or am I just going totally ga-ga !

Anyway, just thought some people might be interested in the programme !
