New Director At Braintree

Recommended Posts

I see Lee Harding has become a director at Braintree Town FC. Congratulations to him!

And it looks likely that when we go there later in the season (Feb/Mar?), EFM will be the match sponsors.

Looking forward to that one. Had a top afternoon when we sponsored the Heybridge match a few seasons back. Mind you, I think we drank the Board Room dry!!

Quote:
Lee Harding, currently chairman of Ridgeons League First Division club Long Melford, will be meeting with FA representatives in London on Monday following his decision to join Ryman League Premier Division Braintree Town as a director.

He will be joined by Ridgeons League secretary Bruce Badcock to discuss Harding's future role at the Stoneylands club.

Following meetings with his solicitor and accountant last week Harding had further talks with Braintree's directors and accepted an invitation to join the board of the Cressing Road outfit.

"I declined an invitation to be chairman," he said.

"For the time being I will be just a director while I learn how things run there."

Harding (pictured) said he understood from speaking to Badcock that the FA believed there was no conflict of interest as the two clubs are in different leagues, and different knock-out competitions.

"But it would probably be appropriate for me to step down as chairman and secretary at Long Melford.

"It would appear, however, that there is no problem with being a sponsor or shareholder."

Harding spent Saturday morning at Melford "getting things ready for the reserve game", and then watched Braintree play Hornchurch in the afternoon.

Badcock has been talking to the FA while the saga has been unfolding. "We want to ensure that Long Melford are left in as good and sound a position as possible, which I know is Lee's intention.

"We owe it to the other clubs in the league to ensure that everything is in accordance with the rules, so we need the help of the FA for that," he said.

"A conflict of interest could arise if Melford finish high enough in the First Division to qualify for the FA Cup," he added.

Harding said: "I am keen to ensure the handover to my successors is as smooth as possible, and that Melford's ambitions for this season are unaffected."
