Surprising news that Byron Walton is general manager at Burnham with Gary Meakin as first team manager there, too.

A marriage made in heaven? Who knows?

Where does that leave SYCOB?

Up the creak? A small crumb of comfort is that they will still have a reletively good Budget for a small club.

Gary Meakin did a fantastic job at SYCOB after losing a lot of players before the season started. I think he is the ideal person to steady the ship at Burnham on a small budget.

It had been Ed, but I took it off pinned mode. As much as it would have been good to convince you you were going a little crazy! :)

BFR, I won't divulge full details, but yes, it was amicable. I've had many conversations with Robin since he took over that job and he's learnt a lot from it. Whether or not he'll do it again, and certainly won't get something with circumstances that bad as when he was first appointed, will be another matter. I think he'd be a great coach for anyone in the pyramid, but needs to build up his contact base of established players before he can be a manager in my opinion.

I don't know Rob Mallinson personally and he may be a sound geezer but I do think he made a few rickets in his job as manager at Burnham and that not all the players were entirely happy with how he handled them.

Perhaps it was just too early for him to go into management,at such a high level but you have to start somewhere, don't you?

I also think he was unwise to make comments about Slough in the Maidenhead Advertiser this week.

What's he said? Nothing in the online version. It was far too early for him, but head to take the opportunity for the experience while it was presented to him. Given the circumstances, he has done well to get any points at all.

Something about Slough have 3x the budget of Burnham.

Having been around football for a very long time, I have learned to take most statements about club budgets with a large pinch of salt. It's always a joy to read in the local paper (not around Slough) that some team or other is operating on a tight budget/expenses only when you know they have just offered one of your best players something like £350/400 a week. I need hardly add that this is not a new phenomenon.

One thing that puzzles me about the Burnham situation is how can the club afford a general manager,a manager and 4 coaches as well as all the players this season, when they were in such dire financial trouble last season?

I know it's not our concern but it does make you wonder...........

Will lightning strike twice through this new season?   Martin Stone and Laurie Craker must be bewildered.Surprised these haven't got a new club by now.Be funny if they turned up at SYCOB !

I can only think that some of these must be on virtually a voluntary basis.

Most of the players they are recruiting so far are from SYCOB so they will come pretty cheap.

Must be nearly a month since Gary Meakin resigned from SYCOB and still no news on a new Manager. One things for certain whoever the new manager is he will have to do major re-building job.
