What to discuss?

Being everything is rosy with the Slough team set-up at the moment, the fans forum is a bit dull on football matters due to the fans not being used to this abundance of success, and nobody wanting to say anything to spoil it !

I thought I'd throw a hypothetical non-league football question out to everyone.

Purely fantasy [not wanting to replace any of our current squad,so this heads off any misinterpretation !]

What one player would you think would enhance our squad from either the Southern Premier Division or the Central Division of the season just gone,if money was no object.

I'll start the ball rolling by saying the ex Chesham and now a St Albans player,Steve Wales.

Whenever I've seen him play I have always rated him highly.

Agree Steve Wales is a quality player 3spirit, but can't imagine him leaving St Albans when they've just been promoted. Also agree that the Rugby Left Back is bloody good and worth a phone call, but personally can't see him willing to travel all them miles for the home games, training etc. Wouldn't mind a speedster upfront myself, say someone like Ryan Blake at Burnham, Niko Muir at Northwood or Lee Roache from Dunstable. Also like the look of that left winger at Marlow, Devontae Romeo I think he's called. Pacy and very tricky on the ball I remember him giving us a few problems when we played them last season. However he is pretty small and size might be an issue in the league above as it seems the higher up the pyramid you go the more powerful players you get.

How about the subject of attracting bigger gates and getting more young supporters hooked on the Rebels and non league football now we are in the Southern Premier League as this is the time to do it.

Windsor over Beconsfield would be a big plus on all fronts.

Before discussing what players the fans might like to see signed, maybe funding should be discussed, as I would assume it's likely to be more expensive in the Premier, with coaches required for the longer distance matches, and even the odd overnight hotel expense.

Are attendances likely to just automatically increase because we will be a division higher? Or will pro-active efforts need to be made to increase attendances? (because our average of 279 this season would not provide sufficient revenue for us to be competitive in the Premier)

Should ticket prices (both season ticket and matchday tickets) be increased for the Premier?

The small sample of season ticket holders I spoke to on Monday were more than happy to pay extra. It's a difficult balance I guess, you need to generate more income but you don't want to put people off coming especially with the ground so far away from Slough (assuming we're still at SYCOB next year). I think a price increase is inevitable but personally I'd like to see it frozen for juniors as we need to encourage more of that age group to come along.

Not sure how much the crowd will increase...it will be interesting to find out.

That average is still higher than half of the teams in the Southern Premier this season and will surely improve next season.
