Southern Combination Cup Final

Recommended Posts

Spelthorne Sports go head to head with Hanworth Villa on Wednesday 7 May in the Final of the Southern Combination Challenge Cup.  The match will be played at Spelthorne Sports FC, kick-off 7.30 p.m. and will mark the first use of Spelthorne’s new lights.

This competition which has been going on since the 50’s has in the past attracted entries from the likes of Wycombe Wanderers, Slough Town, Wimbledon and the like, but these days it is usually contested by CCL teams, along with a few from the Ryman and other surrounding leagues.  It is excellently administered by the Competition Secretary John Cronk.

A large crowd is expected at Spelthorne on Wednesday, especially because it will be the first match under the lights.  Hanworth Villa are now the only side standing in the way of Spelthorne going through their whole season unbeaten in any competition.

Well done Villa and hard luck Spelthorne.  To get that close to a whole season unbeaten is a remarkable achievement.

Sometimes the result doesn't always tell the full story.

Can anyone who was there provide a bit more information for those of us who weren't?

E&E not much in it. game of two halves 1st half Hanworth with the wind with then 2nd half spelthorne. Both keepers made 1 save each in the game Hanworth look dangerous from set plays but never got on the end of them. And spelthorne missed 3/4 good opportunities with headers. Hanworth goal was lucky as the keeper went to save it. it hit a bobble and went over him. Good turn out any1 no the ATT as it wasn't mentioned

I heard last night that if Spelly would have won the last two cup games they would of entered the Guiness book of records.

The attendance I would estimate as 200+

Spelly failed to put their chances away and as was said the Hanworth goal was unfortunate, I was behind the other goal, the keeper seem to have it covered when the ball must have hit a divot and sailed over the keepers streached hand, that's football
