During the NGU match, Windsor Rebel (I think) was calling over to me saying "Stanley" and it took me a few seconds to realise he meant me as no-one calls me that  normally so I decided to finally ditch that username.

 

I also remember Alfie asking me if my name was Adam (he knew it was) because I think Kay had told him it was Stanley.

 

Definitely not bringing that name back!  I'll always remember "Stanley is a Rebel" from the FA Cup game though

I am struggling to recollect here, but when we got relegated from the Conference in 93-94, then was back in for 95-96, how did we go back up?

Not sure, but when we got thrown out of the Conference didn't we go down to the premier division and then get relegated to Div 1 and haven't been promoted since?

In effect, there was a promotion in 94-95 as we went up at the expense of Enfield who won the league at a relative canter but had financial irregularities. Most aren't counting that though

Thrown out of the Conference in 1998, relegated to the first division in 2001, promoted back up to the premier in 2004 and relegated back down to the first in 2007.

 

2004 was a bit different though as Slough finished fourth but many teams were promoted due to the creation of the Conference North/South.

In 2004 we avoided being effectively relegated by finishing 4th. I think if we had finished 6th or below we would have gone down a step due to the restructuring.

 

Gary is spot on about 94-95, we didn't win promotion as it wasn't done on the pitch.

You only earn promotion (that's to say going up a level) when it's done by right.

 

In 94/95 only the league champions (Enfield) should have been promoted by right, but as there were no play-offs, the runners-up were promoted instead. (Nowadays a relegated team from above would have been reprieved).

 

2003/04 wasn't a promotion as we didn't go up a level.

 

So for me, our last promotion (by right) was 24 years ago in 89/90.

The last time does not matter, it is the here and now, and we did win 26 games in the league, and then a further 2 in the playoffs to give ourselves the right to be promoted - no by's, no financial irregularities, no restructuring, no splashing of the cash like some clubs in the league tried, just by the managers picking the right teams and the boys going out and doing the business.

I will be speaking with their team this week to see what can be done about purchasing the rights to the footage and producing a DVD off the back of it. As long as the price isn't extortionate, we will be doing what we can to get something produced.

No, they have not even had the courtesy to reply but think they will be producing something themselves as Bakes has been making friends on their forum and has been promised something.
