PROMOTION

Recommended Posts

also of course on the 05/05/1990we won 1-0at Bromley to be promoted to the conference

Truly astonishing stuff! Well done players, managers, our excellent chairman and all those who travelled the 80 odd miles to witness this win. Interestingly we were relegated at Chesham on 5/5/2001, so on this day we are promoted back and will be reunited with the Generals after they lost their play off final today.

What exactly happened / was said to you DJD?

Just the locals being upset, just before the little bum rush/ provocation and pint throwing. Whilst they were chanting about f ing us up. Going home in ambulances and how they were gunna get us.

Amusingly and ironically it was aimed at me after I started the "why don't you support your team?" Chant.

Congratulations, Slough, back at Premier Level after what must have seemed a lifetime away - beating Rugby and Kettering away is some performance. We look forward to meeting you again next season (I think!!!)

It will be interesting to see who else joins after the usual league manipulation to replace Hinkley.

Once more really well done - it isn't easy to get out of a division - look at Chesham. It isn't easy staying there either!

Just stunning. Still buzzing this morning and I don't think I can believe it yet either.

At half time we were dead and buried, hardly able to get any passing together on a bad pitch with that swirling wind. But second half the wind died down and we were able to play football like we know we can and Kettering had no answer. Such well taken goals by Dyer and McClurg too. Once we got in front we were pretty comfortable and saw the game out well.

Every player played their part excellently after half time, the subs were superbly timed and did exactly what was needed to get us through to the final whistle.

The celebrations afterwards both at the ground and in the Herschel Arms will live with me forever. Looking forward to Friday night too. My first time starting songs at the end we had claimed as our own too which was brilliant. We travelled in great numbers and every Rebel there and listening and following around the world played every ball with the team despite being heavily outnumbered.

So proud of the team, the managers and the club today. We are going up! COYR!

Still can't believe we have finally done it, my head is still buzzing after a couple of hours sleep.

I was muttering to myself as I changed ends at half time that we needed another second half like we had against Rugby where we scored three goals, but with the way Kettering were playing I couldn't see that happening.

Then in the second half, we came out on fire, and Kettering didn't know what hit them, and their once solid defence started to make mistake after mistake.

Once we got that second goal, there was only going to be one winner.

After the season we have had, with the team we've got, that has such a good bond, I think, ironically, being promoted by the play-offs was actually quite fitting.

I'm really proud of the players and management, and everyone connected with the club.

Yesterday was just the best day.

Thanks to the lads for making Alfie's day by letting him join in their celebrations.

Well done Neil and Jon and everyone who has played apart during the season, not just yesterday.

There were a few knobheads trying to start something near us on the side but I wouldn't

include them as Kettering fans,as they are just the usual scumbags who talk big when they've drunk a few pints and when they have their cronies around them and were just the type who had just jumped on the bandwagon of a big local game.

I found most of the Kettering fans I spoke to were a good, knowledgeable about non-league,decent bunch and I felt a bit sorry for them at the end,as we Slough fans know what it is like to be beaten in the play-off's.

However,Slough were due a big win after the crap the club and the fans have had to endure over the years. It finally was our time.

Zipper-de-do-dah,zipper de aye. My,oh,my What a WONDERFUL DAY !!! :)

Think it has all been said........I notice that with one exception posts have not talked of a man of the match ...........quite right as this was a team performance with all of them being immense in that second half.

Most of us felt it was gone at half time............I said once before this season that whatever is put in the tea at halftime must be quite something but it is clear that what was put in at halftime was a great team talk!

So thanks to all the group- chairman, management, players, physio etc for giving us a great end of season and something to look forward to

On a personal note.........Neil and Jon-sorry I(and many others !) doubted you early on !

We have waited a long time for that. The second half was a bit of a blur but the celebrations in the Herschel were something else; the players coach blocking the street as we pilled out of the pub onto the street singing! So proud to be a Slough fan, what a top club i support. So pleased for Steve Easterbrook - what a top man he is. All we need now is a bloody ground

Only sad bit was Chris Sliski not being there but great to see Glen at game and in pub. Peter would have been proud.

When all the euphoria dies down and Slough fans have soaked up being on a the high, perhaps in a few days we can discuss the match itself but for now let's enjoy it and milk it for all it's worth.

Especially if we can raise the profile of our club to get the new ground back on the council's agenda !

As a supporter for over 50 years I'd like to add my congratulations to everyone concerned at such a wonderful achievement. In the club's current circumstances, it ranks up there with the best of the successes of the past and the way in which it has been achieved is arguably the most praiseworthy aspect of all.

I think its fair to say that was a game of two halves.

No idea what was said at half time but it must of been the team talk of the century !!!

What a fantastic group of players and managers, never gave up and where utter class throughout.

WE ARE GOING UP, SAY WE ARE GOING UP !!!!!!!!!!
