Smudge

Recommended Posts

Has anyone noticed how this League is changing, over the past few years the older established Clubs, are now falling by the Wayside,Bookham,Banstead,Dorking,Sandhurst,Alton, have had a hard time of late. The reason I believe is that they have become stale, where as progressive teams like Guernsey,South Park,Westfield,Spelthorne,Knaphill,Eversley and California,Bedfont Sports,Hanworth Villa, have all flourished off the pitch,as well as on.They have not lived on their Laurels, they have got out in hard times, and raised revenue to better themselves.Maybe others should take a leaf out of their book, before they fall by the wayside, and join the also rans.

I think there is soemthing in what you say Smudge.  Although Westfield are very much an established club at this level.

Also they all have their own grounds and have in someway benefitted from a lot of support in terms of grants and/or substantial council help. Before anyone gets excited by that sentance it is factual rather than a criticism :)

Really looking forward to the 3 promoted teams making the Prem even more competitive next season.  Keeps us oldens on our toes :)

The "successful" Premier Clubs in recent years don't progress much further though Smudge - money has a huge influence at the next level and those above. Maybe Guernsey will buck the trend, although if you read the other threads they too are doomed as they groundshare  ;) . But as you quite rightly infer, to be successful Clubs need to look to the future. There is no future in the past.

Kroons agree about Councils help, but if you do not,put yourself in the frame, you get nothing.Knaphill even have a bar now,now that is progression ;)

Quite agree Smudge.  But it doesnt mean the clubs who havent progressed havent asked does it ?

Smudge, Kroons is absolutely right about Westfield and Knaphill, they have had a massive financial boost by having a Council like Woking Borough to assist them. I was astonished to hear from a Westfield committee member that they did not have to put any of their own funds into the new ground, not even pay the planning application fee. We have already paid upwards of 10k including the planning fee and we have got to find more once we get planning permission and a new lease.Do agree though about getting out and getting sponsorship, this is something that only a few clubs get right and we are not one of them. I do feel that it is good for the league to have new clubs coming up and if they replace older more established clubs, then so be it.

As the topic is New kids on the block, realistically are there any teams that can make the stringent ground grading for step 6. I've herd a few teams mentioned but are we likely to see additional teams at DIV ONE level

Lets hope so but the F.A.Ground Grading puts serious obstacles in many Clubs way. With South Kilburn resigning CCL 1 will be down to 15 clubs. The only newcomers to the CCL 1 over recent years have been Groundsharing ones,3 of whom, fell by the wayside,so it does not bode well.

The more worrting factor would be if the F.A. enforce what they quoted would happen  for current Step 6 Clubs, that was due to come into force 14/15 season.

We could end up in a scenario, where the 3 Premier sides relegated next year, would have no CCL 1 League to go too, some serious thought must be given to this by the CCL League and its Members.

We are very grateful for the help received from the council. However it wasn't all plain sailing and thanks to the hard work of the chairman the Woking Park you see today is very different from what was intended for us. There is also a huge financial cost for the club as well which I won't get into detail on.

We came very close to being demoted this season as at the turn of the year were getting nowhere with the new stand needed to keep us up. Residents firmly against it and the PA system. Committee worked a miracle to pull it off but i was staggered at the cost of the small stand. It makes a mockery of the FA rule for ground grading.

South Park----Premier Champions

Spelthorne Sports-----Division 1 Champions----Division 1 Cup Winners.

Hanworth Villa----Premier Cup Winners--------Southern Combination Winners

Bedfont Sports----Grant McClellan Youth Cup Winners.

A few years ago these teams were unknowns in the CCL.Yet this year they have cleaned up,any ideas why? It certainly is not money for players.

Better players maybe, obviously the managers at these clubs have very good contacts unlike a lot of others who have none, like i said before the 1st thing a manager needs at this level is a long phone book, take it from someone who has won a few of the above in recent years.

A very good 'back-room' squad that work together rather than against each other.

Simples !!!!
