3spirit
Always thought Paul Hyde (Hayes, Wycombe) keeper was a bit of a hard / no nonsence keeper. Colchester's Brian Mcdonough. Paul Hyde would be my keeper in my fantasy dream non-league team[Paul Wilkerson would be my reserve one,ex Slough and Stevenage].Paul Hyde was commanding and an excellent stop stopper and not afraid to come out to take the ball from a cross. Boy,was he a loudmouth, though ! Funny we were only talking about him on Saturday. Hardest players for other non-league teams - Gary Brabin[Runcorn]- a midfield dynamo, with strength, power and ability on the ball. Colin Cowperthwaite[barrow]- Cumbrian striker built like a brick s**thouse ! A handful for any defender,as he knew how to score goals as well. Graham Roberts[Chesham] Ex Spurs player and Slough Town manager. You wouldn't have fancied being a striker against him in defence! Slough hard men - Tony Dell [his nickname was Psycho!], Darron Wilkinson, Darren Anderson[ex Aldershot centre-half]......... and someone who would be a complete surprise to many Steve' thommo' Thompson, a totally honest, fair player with skill to match the best but woe be tide anyone, tackling dirty or taking the pee out of him.He possessed a cracking punch and was very resilient, due to his RAF PE training as a physical instructor. 3spirit
Always thought Paul Hyde (Hayes, Wycombe) keeper was a bit of a hard / no nonsence keeper. Colchester's Brian Mcdonough. Wasn't it Roy McDonough. If it was?, Slough's Darren Anderson got his marching orders after tangling with Roy in a 4-0 loss to Colchester at Layer Road.Seems they had history! Can't remember if it was an FA Cup match or Conference game but remember being pig sick in the stands because of it !
Graham Cox
Yes it was Roy McDonagh and I too remember that game which I am sure was a cup tie.............I think the only time my other half ever watched Slough! She wanted to see Colchester shops really ! And I agree about Velli..........we had the best of him but unfortunately not for that long .
BFR
Brian 'Killer' Kilcline. Captained Coventry to the FA Cup. Played for Halifax against Slough in the great trophy run. Would not mess with him.

Ian
Darron wilkinson.... A hard man.... Never he's a right softie Same goes for another of my Rebels favourites......Roy Gumbs. Gumbsy now coaches an under 14 team. I refereed one of his games a month or so ago and he went ballistic at me for not giving a foul throw by the opposition. I told him to be quiet!! At the final whistle he had his customary massive smile on his face and we spent 10 minutes talking about Slough. Top man.
michaelSTFC
Andy Clement at right back was a bit of a proposition for any left winger. Yes, Roy McDonough got Darren Anderson sent off in the 0-4 FA Cup defeat at Colchester. For such a "hard man", he did a pretty good impression of someone being hit by a truck, shot in the back and hit with a baseball bat at the same time with very little contact. Yes 3spirit, I stand corrected, it was Roy (from memory, he had grey hair and a mustache). I was at that 4-0 game, FACup first round.

He was a throwback to the 70's with his hair and droopy moustache.Bit of a poseur,if you ask me. Funny enough,a friend of mine knows of him,and he did still live in Colchester the last time I heard of him.Seems he's rather notorious around that area.Small world sometimes, isn't it? Anyway,he did do Darren Anderson up like a kipper to the referee and once sent off, bang went Slough's chance to progress into the next round. Got a feeling a chap who was a class player for Colchester at the time. scored a couple of the goals.Think he went by the name of Steve McGiven,if memory serves me correct. lino
There was a player for Southall F.C called Mick McNut ( I kid you not )who spent more time in the ref's book than in the fixture list. Anyway he smacked a ref and got banned for life I believe .

After hitting the ref he was willing to take on all comers including a policeman if my memory serves me right, and that game was played at the Dolphin against STFC.
