3spirit
I was wondering whether our formation should be tweaked a little bit, given the players we have available to us currently. As our next three games are like cup finals. I certainly think we need to be adventurous and attacking against Chertsey. So I would play a 3-5-2. To me our centre midfield has been struggling of late and with Ben Edwards now back we have a chance of adding a defensive lynchpin to our midfield thus freeing our other two centre midfielders[whoever they are] to create more. It's a risky ploy this late in the day and I expect Bakes and Unders to name the same side that started yesterday with the exception of Dave Woozley coming in for Ben Edwards at left back and staying with a 4-4-2,if we have no injuries. I would play Somerville Hollis Simtim Woozley Fraser[defensive right wing back] Edwards Dobson[attacking left wing back] Warren Harris[free role] McClurg Smith Dyer Subs Duff,J.Parsons,Short,Risbridger and Cornell What do others think? Mark44
I can see where you are coming fro Stuart, however, I am a firm believer that if you play one formation then you should stick with that one formation. I think this is more so at the level we play where the players do not have the same quality as in the Premiership in order to change effectively. My team against Chertsey would be as follows: Somerville Fraser Hollis Woozley Edwards W.Harris Sintim McClurg Dobson Smith Dyer Subs: Short, Castello, Risbridger, Duff, J.Parsons If we were to get a 2 goal advantage with 30 mins to go I would bring on Risbridger, Duff and Castello and get them some much needed game time ahead of a potential playoff where they can then be called upon if need be
3spirit
Each to their own,Mark. My 3-5-2 would fluctuate to a 4-4-2 anyway,as Sean can drop in the right back slot and Wooz can cover left back. My notion is that having three centre halves with the quality Guy,Dan and Wooz bring, should be any easy fit to them. As centre midfield is an area where things aren't going so well, I think having the balance of Ben in a holding role,Jamie with his vitality around the field and the attacking prowess of Warren Harris in a free role would create chances for our front two,as well as chances for themselves.Equally we also have James Dobson and Sean Fraser pushing on down the flanks. Our three strong, resilient and experienced centre halves should easily cope with a system like this. After all it's nothing new !
Mark44
I do agree that there are advantages in your formation, I would of course still stick to the 442. A question around the Wazza free role, he is our most attacking player from the midfield and gets the ball in the box. I worry that we would want him to run at defenders in a free role and completely lose our width unless Sean and Dobbo were consistently running up and down which in turn would tire them. Do we then have the fit subs to bring on after 60 mins?
Martin
It'll be interesting to hear on the availability of Wooz, Fraser and Ryan Parsons ahead of this game as I think that will dictate much. Personally think we stick to 4-4-2 as that is what has got us in this position. If those three are around think the team picks itself. Neil Baker
Wooze will be available, and have had promising communication with Sean today that his ankle is nto as bad as first thought, so fingers crossed with him also. Ryan I would guess will be very doubtful for the weekend, but again you never know.
Martin
Thanks Neil. In which case I would go Sommers Fraser Simtin Hollis Wooz W Harris Short Clurgy Dobson JD and Smith Subs: Edwards Castello Cornell J Parsons risbridger Thought Ben did a decent job yesterday playing out of position and he would be benched IMO only on the basis that I guess he is short of match fitness. If there is any risk in playing Fraser I'd go for Ben in there.
Hammer_rebel
Why do the teams not have George starting just in interest??? Except martins! I personally think everyone is giving George a hard time and for a young player I think he's doing well! Maybe support him a little bit more on the field and he'll surprise you! lino
Chertsey are relegated so cannot see them being too bothered with the game, though obviously we must be prepared to assume they will be up for it. Didn't Barton put 6 past them recently ? The fact we have another chance at promotion should be enough to " Gee " us up.I'm quietly confident . Curtis
I'm just surprised Dobson is in everyone's starting line up.... you've all obviously seen something I haven't yet. Personally I'd prefer Jake Parsons on the right and Warren Harris on the left, with the pace and ability to cut inside and score.

It's not likely to happen,I know, but I can dream! I recognise that our subs wouldn't necessarily fit into my system but nothing stops you changing things, if we're in front or behind come to that ! [ like we did yesterday], to go back to a 4-4-2 or whatever formation you like. My belief is you play the best players you have available, in a system that works for players you have. Having the three centre backs we have ie Guy-strong and quick,Dan-big and athletic and Wooz-assured and experienced .Why do we need 4 defenders against second from bottom Chertsey? We also possess the athleticism of Sean Fraser and James Dobson on the flanks. Both with energy to burn. Warren Harris is the ideal man to bring some much needed flair to the midfield.Jake Parsons could play the role, too or even George Short or possibly,Steve Duff.Obviously when match fit. I'm not convinced George would be what sort of player I would like to see in a free role,as you need mobility and the ability to use ball dribbling skills to go past an opposition player or two. However I still feel that George,if he had the luxury of a holding player and another centre midfield player with him in a centre mid three, could play in an advanced role and put his hefty shot to better use and his excellent passing skills, than when he drops too deep in many games and fails to make a tackles, which invariably happens when he plays alongside Jamie McClurg. Chris
I like Dobson and think he's a good player but with regards to Jake I'd like to see him given some time on the right and Warren on the left as other have said, as I don't remember Jake playing on the left for us at all last season. But that said I fully understand though why Bakes & Unders pick Warren there though with 17 goals from that position!

To be honest,Curtis,I sort of agree with you here but Jake isn't match fit. I liked what I saw of Steve Duff,as he looks like he is going to be stronger than James, when he's fit but look at competition we will have for places if we can keep all 4 players. James I'm sure will improve, the more games he gets under his belt for us and when he gets to know the players and management better. To be fair to Dobbo, he's been plunged straight in the deep end and has been more than adequate so far.
Mark44
Think you haven't given him a chance George is a young lad with potential and needs confidence boosting not digging him out every game.... I really like George Short and considering his age he is a very good player......The reason he did not make my team is I feel that he has worked his socks off recently and a game off would do him the world of good going into the playoffs Sintim played in a centre mid role at NGU and did very well also so is the ideal replacement at this time given wooz is back
3spirit
Think you haven't given him a chance George is a young lad with potential and needs confidence boosting not digging him out every game.... No one is digging him out every game ! Did you actually read what I said? I actually agree that it is stupid to moan at players at games and in the main I seek to encourage especially the younger players. On this forum, I say it,as I see it. We've got three games to get promoted.Experience counts for a lot in high pressure games. I have no qualms if Bakes or Unders chooses George Short to play in any of the three games. He is a good player. I do happen to see the qualities of other players, too, though.
