Tempted to pop down for this one and give the Tigers some support for this one  ;)

Thursday 24th April

PREMIER DIVISION

0-0 London Tigers v Colney Heath

A report on this re-played affair from another Forum:

Spartan South Midlands Premier Division

London Tigers 0-0 Colney Heath

Adm: £6.00, Prog: £1.00

Att: No more than 30

My second game this week, and 50/50 as to whether it will be my last. London Tigers used the Avenue on the A41 just outside Greenford and this has to be one of, if not the worst Step 5 grounds around. Basic does not even begin to sum this up. No proper gate, just a fella taking money. 3 sides are railed, all hard standing with no access to the far side which is just trees. About 50 bench seats in a small stand behind the goal and a roofless ramshackle stand at the other end. Surrounds and the sides of the pitch are heavily overgrown, and it feels hemmed in.

The match was not actually that bad, though it get to a point where I was expected a dreaded. Maybe 5 or 6 clear cut chances for both sides, the first half the better with the nearest to a goal a turn and shot by Colney Heath's 9 on 64. Little between the two and we had a Football League referee in charge (according to an SSMFL official who asked me if I was a hopper) as the previous attempt to play this was abandoned due to fighting!

The ground despite its A41 location is just 10 minutes from Greenford station, right out of it then and the bottom go right, ground on the right. I took the District line to Ealing Broadway then FGW to Greenford, after with time to kill and no more trains running, Central Line back to Central London. Nice and easy. Suppose at rush-hour, both options would be busy.

I was one of the few at the game and it wasn't a bad 0 0 game to be honest both teams played attacking football and both teams had some good goal scoring chances to break the deadlock. No trouble between the teams this time. G.Draper was a man mountain at the back for Colney Heath.

The ground really does need some work done on it it is a poor ground but there is something I like about the ground but not sure what.

I think that's why it's widely known as 'the hidden gem', it's obviously not the Emirates, Old Trafford or Wembley but, as you say, there's something about it

Am I the only poster, who thinks your dictionary, and choice of phrases, e.g. the 'special one', a 'hidden gem', etc., etc. - which you repeat ad nauseam, and no-one ever agrees with - come from children's fairy stories?

Yep and then he has a pop at a proper non league man who's club win the league and he says 'he's over the moon ' saying that it was over the top.

Gents the guy running Tigers is an absolute gentleman

Tokyngton Manor had a horrendus time with Doug White, the infamous Bedfont Green Chairman, when we were groundsharing at the so called 'hidden gem', he made life really difficult for us and had our beleaguered Chairman Terry Springer tearing his hair out and laying out money hand over fist. White was ultimately the reason why we were sadly forced out of the SSML and has a lot to answer for, I gather Southall have also had some trouble with him in the past.
