Slough v Rugby

Marcus, I appreciate it's frustrating but the keeper can't be time wasting if the ball is at his feet as it's in play. He did what 100% of keepers would have done in the situation, 2-1 up away to a promotion rival.

As for the challenge on Ed before there's no justification for it to be red. It wasn't denying an obvious goal scoring opportunity as it was close to the corner and there were two covering defenders on the line. The only other way it could have been red is excessive force and it wasn't.

Absolutely agree that the keeper wasn't "time wasting, in the laws of the game" as the ball is in play. As it's in play ed has a right to challenge for it until the keeper has full control of the ball, something he only has a split second before ed stamps the ground in front of him. Another argument for it not being a red. It was slightly late.

I don't honestly believe that the keeper should have been off for his challenge on ed. but I see his foulg@ on ed as far more of a foul than ed's return "foul".

If an midfielder in the semi circle is playing with the ball and inviting a tackle and one comes in and there is very little (if any) contact is that a straight red as well??

What's the red card for then? Violent conduct? Serious foul play?

I appreciate everyone has an opinion but mine is not changing here. Never a red.

They prob thought that when we won 4-0 at their place! ;-)

No two games of football are the same. Only need to look back to last season where we were totally outclassed by Gosport in the trophy, then a few weeks later went on to have 2 close games in the FA Cup that we eventually won via a replay.

If the referee deems it as using excessive force then yes, it would be a dismissal. It would be serious foul play if it was for a "challenge" for the ball. Violent conduct is for incidents away from play.

Depends how you define intent. Ed's foot, while it does go up in the air, comes straight down on the spot where the ball was and not near the legs of the keeper. He's not gone for the keeper, just for the ball. I'm with Marcus on this one we've been conned out of our top goalscorer for any potential playoff final. Granted Ed should not have put himself in that position but it does not excuse the keeper's dive or the ref's mistake either.

Yes we were outplayed yesterday much in the same way as we did to them earlier in the season, and should probably have lost by more. These things happen and we need to regroup and go again against Aylesbury. If Rugby beat Barton on Monday and we win we are effectively in the playoffs thanks to our superior goal difference.

They nullified Warren down one side and so the strikers got no service and they exploited the weakness at left back too after Ryan went off.

Agreed that Lake was excellent and Sintim too had a good game but the others need to consider what the plan is in that situation in future. We started trying to play it over a large and well organised defence which didn't work and we stopped playing our usual game.

It's still in our hands and I believe we can do it. COYR.

Some observations on yesterday's disappointing result................

We missed Wooz massively, maybe even more than Adam.............as well as his positional sense, we didnt have a real leader on the pitch

Warren was maybe the quietest he has been for us,,,,,,,,,,,,,,I know he was well marked but he didnt escape this marking like he usually does...is that niggling injury getting worse

The injury to Ryan had a big effect.......with the best will in the world Dobbo is not a full back, despite his efforts,

When we lost Ed why was Johnnie Dyer subbed as well...............the managers usually get subs right so was he injured

Not close enough as some to see the Ed incident, but in the context of the game and the circumstances , yellow may have been sufficient,,,,,,,,,,,,saw him afterwards and he wasnt happy !

Jake Somerville was excellent and an obvious MOTM but their keeper also made some good saves especially firat half

Ref seemed to dislike contact from the very beginning

So lets say that the wheels havent come off, maybe just got a little bent and we can restore the play off situation and on recent form still feel we can beat anybody.

Gutted I cant be there Monday but any one missing it will for sure be there in spirit.............evry great run comes to an end............so sad it had to be against Rugby

Dyer had already been booked in the first half. I was a little surprised at the lack of Rugby protests for a second yellow when he committed a foul in the second half. Don't know if he had a knock, but maybe subbed for preservation?

Not at the game so can't really comment on the sending off in context but for me the reason it is a red is because it is on the keeper. Keeper bending down to pick up the ball is in a vulnerable position. It is a bit petulant from Ed and looks more aggressive then I think it was in practice but you can understand the decision.

Disappointing because he had worked so hard to cut out the bookings when he was on the knife edge.

Lets hope this inspires him to fire us into the play off final and then a one game where anything can happen.

Think tomorrow will be tough, so need to make sure we are fully at the races COYR

Absolutely no point in appealing Smithy's red card.

Even watching the slow mo there's no way anyone can see whether Smithy has put his studs the keepers left leg or not.

Can't blame the Ref because in normal time and from his view it looks a really bad challenge.

Even thought the keeper probably cheated, I think most would have done the same in that situation to get a player sent off.

As for the game, Rugby were good and we were poor, simple as.

with injuries and unavailability, we have a big task non our hands tomorrow, so we all need to get behind the team.

All teams have done something similar at some point and all teams do their best to gain an advantage.

I'm sure most people can remember NBH doing his best to get Ashley Robinson sent off a couple of seasons back and succeeding. Part of the game sadly.

It's a squad game, so should the side get to the final someone will step in and hopefully someone will step up but most importantly it's a team and squad game.

Silly challenge but I hate 'keepers taking the piss like that and can understand (not condone) momentary red mist.

And no matter what rests on a game I also detest players faking injury which is what the 'keeper did.

Sadly every team has it's fakers, it's just a part of the game these days at ALL levels from <8 year olds upwards.

How sad IS that.

I despair sometimes.

Good luck in the play offs which you will surely make.....

I mean.... surely????

Bad day at the office yesterday and to make matters worse I missed Clurgy's goal that was somewhere between 35 and 50 yards out depending on who you spoke to! Rugby deserved the points, we just need to move on and do the business tomorrow. Silly sending off from Ed and ironic after all those games avoiding a yellow.

It's one game. We lost, we deserved to lose, sending off or otherwise. We were very much second best with eleven on the pitch on the day. It's gone now. We move on, together, to get behind the lads at Aylesbury and onto another three points.

It's still in our hands. Two wins and we're in the play offs regardless of other results. We can do this.

Exactly and one may be enough if Barton lose at Rugby. The important thing is not to let any tension in the stands exude onto the pitch. Positivity and 100% behind the boys throughout COYR
