Hornchurch had the better of the play in the first half, and Rahim Mohammed twice went close, whilst Jamie Hursit fired wide after cutting in from the left.

Hornchurch took the lead through Rahim Mohammed on 27 minutes, and Canvey drew level eight minutes later when Sammy Knott scored with a fine drive from the edge of the area.

Hornchurch attacked strongly in the second half, but fell behind to a Sammy Knott penalty after Callum Chafer had raced out of goal and misjudged his challenge for the ball.

Jamie Hursit equalised with a well placed header from a right wing centre two minutes later, and Hornchurch went close on several occasions before Owen Edobor netted through a crowded goalmouth, and Isaak Bascombe added a fourth two minutes later.

Canvey were reduced to ten when one of their forwards was booked for a foul, and then shown a straight red for disputing the decision.

Hornchurch, with one match left to play, have 36 points, nine points ahead of second placed Luton Baldock, who have six matches still to play. No other team can now catch Hornchurch at the top.
