Time constraints meant I couldn't make the journey to Basingstoke today...so I took the wagon up to Braintree.<p>With a bit more luck today Braintree could have been at least a couple of goals up at halftime as they dominated the first half. Alas G&N had enough chances in the second half and just about deserved their victory. News had filtered through to the ground at halftime that Canvey were 3-0 up...so G&N put up a slightly better show second half.<p>I think we need to rely on Bedford folks.

We played in blue today and scored 4 goals. We could've had 7. Basingstoke could've had 2. Tilly did quite well considering he was playing left-back today and I believe that Danny Bolt has firmly established himself as a good first-team player.<p>Sutton on Saturday let's put another 4 past them... Oh don't we have a cup final before that!?<p>Pumpkin <p>BTW - I heard during the first-half today that Mark Stimson will definately be leaving the club at the end of this season to take up his coaching job at Spurs full-time. This true??

What game were you watching, Captain Haddock ??<p>Braintree "dominated" the first half ?? Whilst we struggled in the first half to get any real rhythm going, and Braintree had those 2 opportunities in the last 5 minutes of the half, I certainly dont think they dominated it. We equally had 2 or 3 chances, so whilst it was probably fair to say that we were fortunate not to go a goal behind in the first half, the second half display was much better and certainly a win for us was more than warranted by the end.

Hmm, Sutton next Saturday at home. Shouldn't lose that, we put 4 past them at their place (in blue!)<p>So I hope we can see some more of the same.<p>But if by some fluke (or miracle) that we don't win and Gravesend win... it's all over for another year.<p>But if we both win where will the Officials take the Trophy on the last game? Was this the same Captain Haddock who said something like we "struggled against a poor Grays side" a few weeks ago? I can tell there was only really one team in that game most of the time and they weren't from Essex! It was, in fact, one of our best performances this season. Also said that the 26th was the best you've seen us play all season? <p>Somehow I think you many be mistaken...<p>Admittedly, we weren't great yesterday. It was in a strange way a repeat of the home game vs. Braintree back in October/November - we looked tired and unimpressive (as we have for the last few weeks, 2 games a week for the last couple of months has taken it's toll) first half, neither team looking better than the other, but were strong second half and scored two good goals to take the points. <p>Also heard from a 'Stoke fan on our site that your fans were a bit poor yesterday...any particular reason for this?

If you think that was one of the best performances you must have been standing in the Burger Bar queque for 90 minutes and have witnessed some atrocious footie this season. I think Essy was referring to the Grays game, where you commented that we struggled against a poor Grays side.<p>It certainly wasnt one of our better efforts, 1st half at least, on Saturday, but then it wasnt anywhere near our worst either, and as you say, at the end of the day, we got the 3 points.
