Spelthorne better than Guernsey?

Smudge

Recommended Posts

Little praise has been given to Spelthorne Sports this year on this Forum, but 23 League games unbeaten,County Cup wins, still in the Div 1 Cup,still in the Premier Cup,they must be breaking all CCL Records for sure?Has a team ever gone unbeaten throughout a Season, they could win the Triple,League,Cup,Cup,Even the mighty Guernsey never achieved that.

Cheers smudge/Peter. Everybody at the club including those behind the scenes and especially ex manager Steve flatman have worked tirelessly to try and make things happen and that has transferred over to the team who have battled hard for each other week in week out.

Johno and Gary in charge have instilled a positive mentality also and the players have all gelled this year as a unit and fingers crossed all the hard work can pay off and we go up.

I think it is a good thing that spellys form has gone under the radar as it just allows us to get on with football. No silly nonsense and rumours to take our minds off each game week in week out.

You forgot the southern combination cup also from your list. So could be the quintuple. With the county cup (albeit the smaller version) already in the cabinet, hopefully we can add one or two more in the next month. Big, big ask as we have to play some very good teams starting with Wembley tomorrow night, who will want to show us why they are the league above.

On a side not peter I saw you last Tuesday at the bedfont sports vs Croydon match but was too cold for me to stand outside so sat inside watching from the window. Why wasn't your boy playing?

Hi Smudge. The club's last outright loss in a competetive match was the 3-2 defeat on 6th May 2013 away to South Kilburn in the league last season (the exception being the 1-1 draw with Molesey in the Southern Combination Cup Final a few days later on 10th May 2013 which Spelly lost on penalties).

The club are in contention to win five trophies this season, but everyones feet are firmly grounded and by no means getting carried away.

The competitions are as follows:

Combined Counties Division One

Middlesex FA Intermediate Cup - Winners

Cherry Red Records Premier Challenge Cup - Semi Final (vs Wembley on Tues 1st April)

RPM Records Division One Challenge Cup - Semi Final (vs Farleigh Rovers on Sat 12th April)

Southern Combination Cup - Semi Final (vs Epsom & Ewell on Thur 24th April)

It all makes for a very busy yet exciting April. On a ground related note, the floodlights were turned on for the first time this afternoon ahead of the ground grading inspection

The Club are working exceptionally hard to get the ground up to standard for promotion and I very much wish them well.   Their record speaks for itself and I think they will win the Division One Championship (sorry Knaphill).

Not sure it is a good question to compare them with Guernsey as that is a bit apples and pears in terms of issue of catchment area etc.

Were they to remain undefeated and win 4 cup competitions that would be a monumental performance but if winning everything isn't the test of success, in my opinion, they have certainly had an outstanding season.

Last Saturday there were moments when I thought the run might come to and end but whoever finally beats them will need to play at their best for the whole game, break down a resolute defence and give no space to a powerful forward line!

  • 4 weeks later...

Double promotion Duncs :)

They will be in with a shout Redders, but it looks like Guildford would argue and possibly a few others,I wouldn't like to predict who would get promoted next season until may 2015(this fence is giving me splinters) lets get this season out the way first mate and see who the movers and shakers are.

Nah I agree with ya and to be honest I've only see them play this year. If they end the season unbeaten in all comps there be going into next season full of confidence!!
