New Urchins?

Recommended Posts

See we had an under 18's Urchin on the pitch this afternoon. Which is very good news IMO.

I believe we have also signed Adriano Varnier from Portugal team Boavista!! Part Australian / Italian Keeper.

Can any one shed any more news on this?

I'm sure i saw a third new lad on the coach but cant fully remember??

>>Why do we not get match reports on here anymore so we can look at such things

Rob - the match reports are always posted onto the official web site - home matches are up there at about 7pm and I posted yesterday's report at 8pm, as I watched the Arsenal match on TV first.

If enough people want it, I can post onto the forum as well, but the correct place for reports is the web site.

But surely the first place to look for information has to be the official web site.

And perhaps we should complain also to the Romford Recorder, which no longer carries reports of HFC matches. Since December, all we have had in the Recorder has been a report of a telephone conversation with Jim / Elliot / Colin - but they no longer print reports of matches. The Recorder has gone downhill since the Peter Butcher era and has now hit an all time low. The reporters should all resign.

Did he actually come on

Why do we not get match reports on here anymore so we can look at such things ,fed up if this forum being treated like a second stop for info when it's the first place the hardcore fan looks

But this forum is a second stop for info - surely the first place for any official info has to be the official website.  Not sure who these "hardcore fan(s)" are (assuming there's more than 1) but they need to learn to go to the website first !

It's much easier for you to bookmark and look at the website than it is for someone else to create a new thread, copy in the report, re-format it and post it on here.  Don't create extra work for people.

I disagree with the above I always look here first for info, as there is info on all clubs in our league. Sorry if that is not what you wanted to hear but I've olly been following the club for 30 odd years .....................

Excuse my incursion into your forum, but have to agree with blackballed.

Posting match reports here will probably get more people reading about your club.

You should be looking to copy news and reports to more than just your official website.  Your match reports are great - or were last time I read one! Let us read them here - even if we are not urchins supporters. If we read them, think how many others will when they appear in search engines.

Hopefully here people will also share with facebook, twitter or whatever they use, which in turn will enable their mates to read about the highs and lows of the urchins.

All good publicity. I actually dislike it when a club merely shares a link to their news page on their website. I want to read it here (or wherever I might be) and not have to open a new site.

No offence to whoever is your webmaster, but with any nonleague club, you have to get the word out. If it means 5 minutes to copy and paste, then it is 5 minutes well spent.

I think you also have a RSS feed option here. I have seen those when using the Play magazines app on my phone. I think my Outlook also has an option to import RSS feeds.

edit: yes you do - it is in the footer - http://www.nonleague.co.uk/syndication/5-afc-hornchurch-forum/

Are "all clubs in our league" really covered on here .. unless you're referring to other club's addresses !!  If you wanted info on Dulwich you'd go to their site for official info or their forum for a fan's view.  Not sure of the 30 odd year statement .. if this forum had been around for 30+ years then that would have some credence or do you in some way think your longevity of support adds some weight to your argument?

At the end of the day, the website and the information posted on it is all done voluntarily .. I don't have to [pay for and] run the website, Dagger doesn't have to produce the First Team reports, Mike/John/Paul P/Lee/Paul M and Steve don't have to post for the youth sides.  People have other jobs, other stuff to do and it's wrong to expect these people to duplicate effort by posting on here as well for the sake of a handful of folk who for some reason steadfastly refuse to look at the website.

EDIT: Further to Ralph's point, these are all valid.  However, we're not really talking about sharing info (we do that via Twitter and Facebook anyway).  The original point was that this forum should be the primary source of official club news.  My argument, as has always been, is that the website serves that purpose but if those that contribute to the website have the time and inclination to post on here as well then there's absolutely nothing stopping them doing so.

Andy calm down young man, I think you took it the wrong way, I was simply stating my preference, and your right my 30 odd years has no bearing on it and was said tongue in cheek. I know the hard work that goes on at the club you will have to trust me on that one.

I assume you are the webmaster - sorry, didn't realise.

You guys do a  great job and us ordinary mortals are grateful.  I would not know my code from my elbow!

I disagree on one point though - you say you already share via twitter / facebook. Wouldn't it be better if fans could share news items via their accounts here? The word would be spread wider.

Yes, the website should be the prime (and official) source, but not the only source. Please do not think by duplicating the info that you are watering down your efforts. far from it, you are enabling more people to see the great work put in by the people you mention and more. If people do not like pitchero (and I know some do not for various reasons at our club) then they can still get all the news and information here, instead of having the feeling of being 'cut off'.

In other words spam this forum with your news and information!  I would also add a link back to your official website beneath each copied article, that would increase visitors and google on your official site.

From a personal point of view, it would be nice to have a link to the match report on here as I go here first for information but to be brutally honest, the forum doesn't get used by as many people as it used to. As for Andy, he doesn't just deal with the website - any time i go to help at the club(e.g. getting the snow off the pitch) Andy is usually already there when I get there.

My original reply was simply in response to the statement that this forum was "the first place the hardcore fan looks" for official info.  It shouldn't be !

Whether or not we duplicate info on here, I don't really care.  I rarely will, but if Dagger, Jordan, Pete Butch or any of the youth managers want to then that's entirely their call.  All the website articles can be shared anyway via Twitter and/or Facebook.  What we obviously lose by not posting on here is the non-Hornchurch view of a news item.  If this discussion was on our website for instance then you wouldn't have contributed.  But is that a strong enough justification for duplicating on here?  Makes more sense to take each news item on a case by case basis ....

I always look on here first, and I know many others do.

But,the forum is dying because people assume that no one comes on here anymore, simply because no one really posts anything of interest anymore.

For whatever reason, the match reports stopped being posted on here and lately general chat has almost stopped.

We are a club with crap attendances that are falling and when this forum was at it's height,it would regularly have 60/70 users plus a day all adding to the debate, this itself used to draw people to the club.

Now we have probably 6/7 a day,you do the maths???

What totally pisses me off is some people obviously don't like the forum, this in itself isn't an issue but it's clear to me that it's a decent place to discuss latest club issues,to find out news etc,if it's worth being talked about ,it will be talked about by a clubs fans,as long as those fans have the info in the first place.

It's as important as the website simply because it's a medium which to convey messages and info for anyone who looks at it,and anyone can.

Don't just assume that because you don't like the forum that it's bad and not worth sharing info because at 99% of clubs it's about as good a place as any to get information across.
