Relegation matter from a Wingate & Finchley perspective.

From a Wingate & Finchley perspective:

After our extremely disappointing draw at Cray Wanderers yesterday, a horrendous run of games coming up (Lowestoft, Hornchurch, Dulwich in the next fortnight) and the improved form of Enfield Town and East Thurrock, I’m beginning to think it’s us who look favourites to go down, at least on paper.

The Wingate & Finchley v Enfield Town game on the 19th April could be massive, although a part of me wonders if matters will have been settled by then already?

One thing that continually baffles me about this league is how clubs keep pulling out these freakish wins (Carshalton at Grays, East Thurrock against Maidstone and Hendon etc). It makes predictions very difficult.

Nerve wracking times ahead.

The league is a tough league with any team capable of beating any other team on a good day. To a certain extent the pressure is off Carshalton and Cray Wanderers as I consider that they are doomed. So they can play with more freedom on the pitch. Grays ought to feel safe and Wingate do not seem to appreciate the difficult position that they are in.

Maidstone would have difficulty in playing on a cabbage patch that is East Thurrock after playing half their games on a snooker table.

I have been saying to anyone that will listen that Wingate ought to be favourites for the drop they have not hit any sort of consistent form in the league while ETU and us are in the groove. Your playing surface is a good one and I think that you would have had difficulty in playing in muddy, wet conditions.

On the contrary: we are very aware of the situation. I don't know a single supporter who is looking at this complacently.

I said weeks ago Enfield Town were too good to go down, and East Thurrock always struck me as being capable of turning it around. I guess only time will tell...

The table makes interesting reading and an analysis seems to indicate that Wingate cant dig deep when it matters. We had that problem early in the season when our heads used to go down. It doesn't seem to happen now.

19 Wingate & Finchley 37 12 5 20 47 65 -18 41

20 East Thurrock United 35 9 8 18 47 62 -15 35

21 Enfield Town 35 8 10 17 46 72 -26 34

We have taken points in 18 out of 35 games. ETU has taken points in 17 out of 35 game but Wingate have only managed to take points in 17 games but out of 37. They may have won more games but they have also lost more. Seems to indicate that when they go behind heads go down. In recent games we have battled for a precious point when earlier in the season we would have lay down and got thumped.

East Thurrock's remaining games:

Home: Harrow, Wealdstone, Canvey, Margate, Met Police, Bognor.

Away: Hampton, Maidstone, Leiston, Cray, Enfield.

Enfield:

Home: Leiston, Bognor, Lewes, Maidstone, East Thurrock.

Away: Billericay, Hampton, Carshalton, Lowestoft, Wingate, Cray.

I reckon four wins apiece there, plus draws. Three wins needed for Wingate IMO.

Enfields current turn of form I think will see them dig out home wins against Leiston, lewes and East Thurrock and possibly something against Maidstone

Away, I can see them getting 3 wins against cray,Carshalton and bilkericay IMO and a couple of draws home and away
