Cockfosters 2 Hanwell Town 6

A great first half performance from the Town today we ripped them apart in the first half the Cockfosters team could not get near us a Will Healey hat rick today and another goal for recent new signing Rob Laney. Kyle Watson gave the Cockfosters number 2 a torrid time today and I was told the Cockfosters number 2 was only 17 and playing out of position he could not get near Watson all afternoon.

Cant believe how many games Cockfosters still have to play this season.

A very good programme as always by Cockfosters FC.

Cockfosters FC players looked tired today.

Was told that the club needs to get work done on the ground by the end of the season or they will have to drop down to Division one (Don't know if this is true). Enjoyed my two visits to the club this season nice club.

What's wrong with it? (Apart from the parking)

As I recall, the last time Cockfosters were relegated it was for ground grading issues and to be quite honest I didn't notice many improvements when I went there earlier in the season - apart from the addition of the comedy confession box at the entrance to the pitch!

I suspect (and others will correct me if I am wrong) there may be issues with stand and seating capacity for the Spartan Prem level, though I'm not sure how this could be improved given the restrictions on expansion at the ground.

I also seem to recall that at this level, there used to be issues regarding provision of toilets within the ground and supporter access around the pitch, though those may have changed since I was involved with a club.

I don't think the parking is actually a problem (there are plenty of places to park nearby without getting clamped - especially if you know the area!).

PREMIER DIVISION

4-0 Hoddesdon Town v Holmer Green

A report from another Forum:

Spartan South Midland League, Premier Div

Hoddesdon Town 4-0 Holmer Green

Adm + prog £8, tea 75p

A bright but breezy day in Hertfordshire and a comfortable win for the home side. An early goal came via a great diving header connected to a long looping cross from the right. A second was added not long before the break from a long punt forward which was missed by the defence but snapped up by a forward. Holmer Green had plenty of chances, especially in the first half but couldn't convert and there was some good solid defending from the home team. The first half was spoiled a bit by the incessant whining from both teams.

Fortunately the football was at the forefront after the break, and the game followed a similar patter, Hoddesdon more than capable of dealing with pretty much anything that came at them. It required a few sharp saves from the keeper on occasion, but nthing got through. One of the subs turned neatly and slotted home a third before celebrating with a back flip. The final goal, in the last couple of minutes, came after the ball had hit the bar and wasn't cleared properly allowing the home side another chance which was slammed home from close range.

Lowfield is a pleasant venue, alongside a cricket ground in an enclosed section of what was presumably once part of the adjacent public park. Tall trees and mesh screen the ground from this and the road. A small seated stand on one side has been joined very recently by a wooden shelter on the road/dugout side. The pitch was looking a bit threadbare in places today and a few bobbles caught players out now and again. Tea bar operates from the front of the social club which was open and friendly. Pleasant stroll along The New River from Broxbourne station.

Rest assured the programme is still of telephone directory proportions.

There is very little room around the whole ground and you cant even get behind one goal. I noticed yesterday some new hard standing/paving along the dug out side. They are very limited to what they can do to the ground at Cockfosters FC. The only toilets are in the club house like many other clubs at this level anyway. The stand is two rows of seats under a bus shelter type thing that is in the walk way along one side of the ground. The ground in a way is a bit like London Tigers FC with the same sort of limited what you can do to up grade the ground problems.
