Excellent addition to the squad.

COYR!

If Gareth can re-capture anywhere near his best he will be an excellent signing.

Mind you, nearly 2 years out of the game at a certain age is a long time, shame Gareth couldn't have played some sort of part in the game last night to give him a run out.

Can see your point Heavy Trucker, however, I think the fact we say we will be bringing in one extra to cover Rummy puts my mind at rest.

As Reading has said, if we can get Garath playing at full fitness we will have one of the best centre mids in the league. If we dont then we will arguably have his influence of being in and around the squad. Its interesting to read on his wiki page that he holds a UEFA 'B' coaching badge.

Not a gamble on Ris to be honest, he is a top player, and the lads were coming off after training last Thursday saying things like "how good is he by the way" and even then he did not feel that he had trained great.

He may have an impact this season, he might have none.

However we have plenty of options in the midfield, Clurgy, George, Ben Ed, Jake Parsons, and also Dan Sintim (who has played a number of times for Met Police and Woking in this role).

We also hope to add in one more quality player, who we have been after for 2 months.

We will also be dual signing a few players from higher levels, just to cover us in emergencies, who will stay with their parent club unless we really needed them at the back end of the season, these will be from clubs who are not vying for promotion or relegation obviously.

Ben Edwards looks to be a worry, though,Neil, with this back injury of his.

Good to know that we will have some back up with these dual registered players.Definitely worth doing.

Bakes, I meant more a gamble on Ris coming back after a long lay-off from a serious injury and his match fitness at the business end of the season rather than his quality.

Intriguing to know who the player is that we have been chasing for 2 months.

Presumably the club that he's currently at are no longer in contention for promotion or the play-offs?

His club are actually in contention for play-offs (same level, different league) but we are still hopeful he will sign Sunday/Monday and will be with us at North Greenford. Can't say any more than that I'm afraid as nothing is definite until all paperwork is done.

On the subject of Ris, he trained again last night and watching him closely we really believe he can make an impact this season. He sets himself high standards though so although to everyone else he looks really good he still wants to find that extra 10-15% that he knows he has within him. He has been out 18 months though and that last bit will only come from getting him minutes on the pitch, whether that be off the bench for us or getting a runout elsewhere. We have to manage that with him as best we can and it may be 2-3 weeks before we would consider starting him but there is no need to rush this anyway as we have every faith in George and Clurgy as a central midfield pair having worked with them for the past 3 years. Ris will be on the bench tomorrow and we hope to get him on the pitch but this will depend on how the game is going.

A full preview will be on the club website in an hour with all the team news (plus an interview I did last night) so everyone will get a full update then.

  • 2 weeks later...

Ris played around 80 minutes tonight for Binfield in their 3-1 victory against Kidlington:

Positive that he played so long, and whilst still a bit rusty, this can only be good for him in his recovery, and getting to where we want him to be.
