Neil Baker
Mark can we have a chat about this at next game, as this was one of the things we thought about as a fundraiser for Foulser: Effectively we are looking to raise 2k-2.5k, which will cover about £400-£500 in consultancy fees, as he only gets 2 a year with his medical policy (which he had used up earlier this year with his groin issue), so has had to pay for these also, and then 2k which will help cover some of his losses whilst he is off work, which could be anywhere from 3-6 weeks. Chris
Just throwing an idea here without knowing any details of what this involves at all, or how it's arranged and set-up and the costs involved, but I saw that when Jon & Neil were involved at Godalming last season there was a Sportsmans dinner? From what I read it sounded like a good evening. What about something like this? Maybe the proceeds for something like this could be split between the costs to cover the event, Fouls and a local charity close to he club? ...just an idea. Neil Baker
Hi Chris, The wheels are possibly already in motion for this: Myself and Jon ran the whole event from start to finish, and it was a really successful evening, we had Matt Le Tissier as guest speaker and a great comic in Adger Brown. They are not cheap to get off the ground, and you really need to find a good venue, and also get people selling the tickets, in all honesty myself Jon and the players accounted for 85% of the ticket sales last year, and had over 200 people at the Potters International Hotel in Aldershot (which is a great ballroom style venue). It took a lot of time and effort last year, and also calling in a lot of favours from friends for prizes, i.e signed shirts, tickets to events, etc. But i am going to have a chat with Steve about this. Rebel Kay
It might be an idea to do several smaller scale things, as you say big events take a lot of organising. We can dead easily lay on a quiz night, which we are talking to Mark Betts about already, with a golf day, bucket collection at one of the bigger games and any other easy to organise activities, I would bet we could raise a reasonable amount of money in a relatively short space of time.
