Hendon 3-0 Billericay

We had a few injury problems for this one.... Gary Ansell failed to recover from his dislocated shoulder, and Michael Black was unwell so 2 key players from saturday were out. Andy Jones still not fit, so with Bauckham still unfit we only had the one fit first team striker. Marlon and Steve Jones both returned to the starting XI, though neither looked fully fit. Reserve team midfielder Glenn Hobden was on the bench as was reserve striker Jordan Tolan

Team:

JJ

Henty Reddington Thomas Taylor

Jones Penn Hunter Dormer Patterson

Hockton

Subs

Tolan for Jones HT - Tolan went up front as we reverted to 4-4-2

Hobden for Patterson 70

Started out playing 4-5-1. None of the midfielders were able to get forward to support Hockton so the midfield area was quite congested with Hockton isolated.

Hendon took lead after the initial effort hit the post and rebounded to a Hendon forward who had an easy finish. Given the number of times we've hit the woodwork this season (another 2 last night) about time we had that sort of luck....

We struggled initially to make much impression on the game, but towards the half hour mark we started to get on top for a spell. Best chance game from a Gary Henty cross that looked as though it was going to loop over the keeper's head and into the net bt instead hit the bar. Hendon failed to clear, Dormer had his effort blocked and Hunter headed wide from close range.

We then conceded another sloppy goal when a deep cross found their target man unmarked in the area. He scored with a simple header.

Half time brought on Tolan (played for ressies wednesday ex Tilbury, daggers reserves). Went 4-4-2 which helped our play.

Hockton had a couple of good opportunities 2nd half. Was unlucky when he held off his marker for his shot to beat the keeper but hit the post. He was then denied by the keeper who made a good save when 1 on 1.

Hendon then got a 3rd courtesy of a poor penalty decision from the ref. Their striker was 1 on 1 with JJ but going away from goal. JJ dived at his feet and clearly played the ball but the forward went over and the ref pointed to the spot.

Overall I thought Hendon were definately one of the better teams we've played this season, however 3-0 flattered them. For us the turning point was probably the cross onto the bar followed by the Hunter miss at 1-0. If we had scored then we could have got something from the game. We've probably learnt that playing a loan striker doesn't work for us, however the new lad did ok up front and with playing resources looking a tad thin on the ground at present, the ressies might have to play a major part this month.

hendon deserved to win this as i thgt they were better than us all over the pitch but 3-0 flattered them a bit and our lads kept going until the end. back to normality with us hitting the woodwork at crucial moments and the ref as per was v moderate.

we have massive games coming up agst heybridge n northwood and we need to forget about last night and concentrate on taking maximums from those games.

The scoreline certainly flattered us, have to admit I didn't feel comfortable until the third goal went in. Seemed an easy call for the penalty IMO, was pretty much right behind the incident.

Midfield was very congested, with both of us playing 5 in the middle in the first half.

You were definitely a much better side than Hitchin were on Saturday, showed a lot of fight, worked hard and just had the luck running against you. Always seems to happen like that when you're at the wrong end of the table.

Good luck for the rest of the season (except when we come to New Lodge obviously)

After saturdays win at Basingstoke where we enjoyed the slightest rub of the green and had to endure more incompetent officials, I thought that fortune may start to flow our way. But alas the footballing gods decreed that we should have a mini injury crisis. Needless to say that if Ansell, Black and Jones (even Baulkham, what's happened to him?) had started I would have been very confident of gaining some reward. On chances alone this was an even contest and I don't think we should be too despondent. Credit to the players for never lying down and kept plugging away right till the end.
