margateshot
The pitch must be becoming a real concern now. Another postponement today, although there has been relatively little rain this week, although it did rain yesterday. Here we are again sitting at home in bright sunshine with no match being played. I can't remember the last time we had so many postponements in a season due to a waterlogged pitch. Surely this needs to be addressed in the summer. Guernsey Tom
lots of overnight rain so no surprise for me I cant ever remember receiving persistent rain over such a long period of time so think its the exceptional conditions and no real fault of the pitch
dflman
There has been plenty of rain this week particularly during the night. It is falling on well sodden surfaces so doesn't drain very quickly. The park next to the ground has been a quagmire at times and the neighboring woods are still flooded. We put a lot of effort in extra drainage at the end of May/beginning June last year and maybe it would have worked without the massive rainfall we have had this winter. Hopefully the new stadium will be accompanied by new pitch giving chance to put in the level of drainage required.
chasingthedream
We have only had problems with the pitch over the last couple of years. What has changed in the last 2-3 years?
BlueBoydie
The weather.
chasingthedream
It's only been raining like recently for this season, I don't remember rain like this for a long time. We didn't have rain like this last season and we had games called off quite a few times too. Ramsgate and dover can get their games on, they get the same weather as us. Bill in USA
Thought you supporters bought something to help to get rid of water???
Jab_n17
Thought you supporters bought something to help to get rid of water??? we did it was 'hot air' but not enough Rams supporters turned up !!!!!! But seriously there is only so much machines can do, as I'm sure your aware the rain fall has been the worst ever for years so the ground is saturated so where does the surplus water go? Suppose we could bottle it and sell it as 'Margate Spring' ........ put you down for a few litres Bill
BlueBoydie
I thought one of the many gripes at Dover is "hoofball" so the state of the pitch won't cause them any problems, surely?
BlueBoydie
We haven't had snow yet either. http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/climate/uk/summaries/2013/winter
thevoiceofreason
What can sometimes get forgotten is that the rainfall has been exceptional. It is most often forgotten by the apologists for anti football artificial surfaces, who feel they can claim the moral high ground through getting games played whilst conveniently forgetting the game in question isn't football and gives an unfair home advantage to the owners of these dreadful things. A dry, mild winter and these abominations are pointless and deny fans the opportunity to watch proper football.
BlueBoydie
Not just Margate either. And I heard a stat somewhere that Guernsey had to play 20 games in 37 days at the end of last season due to postponements, and won promotion to Ryman South. http://www.guernseyfc.com/the-team-fixtures-and-results Look at that for an April fixture list. "The Ryman League has said the weather has caused more than 500 postponements in its three divisions"... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26161617
