25th-27th February Matches

Recommended Posts

Guessing Henry is somewhere near Guildford.  Just went mental for about 5 minutes.

No surprise to learn that all Surrey Heath Pitches are off again this weekend.

The whole point with this match is that Kingstonian were drawn at home but were given approval by Surrey County FA to play their County Cup matches away from home.  I can understand it maybe for a Football League side but why a Ryman League side should be given this choice I have no idea.

That decision has now meant that this League is being severely inconvenienced as Ash generally can only play under lights once a week.  We have already had to postpone a Badshot Lea match to allow for one of the previous dates when Ash tried to play Kingstonian and I have little doubt that if they don't manage to play it next Tuesday, which has already caused a further postponement, there will be pressure to play it on Thursday instead, which would mean a further postponement, Badshot Lea this time.

If any of you get drawn away to Kingstonian next season and they want to play at your ground, I suggest you charge them accordingly for the hire thereof.

I guess the problem Alan is Kingstonian are the tenants there these days and get told what to do.

Yet again a club getting in trouble due to spending what they don't have and yet again ground sharing causing an issue, particularly when the clubs involved don't play in the same league.

The mickey mouse Cup,where the big teams never play at home, are a drain on small Clubs  resources. Why dont Ash and Kingstonian toss a coin,or the F.A. delegate that the game is played at Kingsmeadow..Alternatively played at a neutral ground, which is playable aka Wibbadune/Cobham.Likewise the C.H. saga v Wembley in the Premier Cup,takes precedence over League fixtures.WHY.

The reason our domestic cups are given a degree of priority is that, unlike leagues at a higher level, our clubs generally treat the League Cups as being important.  If we are going to get to the Final stage then given the present weather situation, there is no alternative other than to give the competition some priority.  At least though, that is under the League's control and if clubs wanted to scrap or modify the competition they have only to make a proposal as they would for any suggested rule change although any such proposal would require the FA's approval.

The reason that County Cups take priority is doubtless historic as each County's Senior Cup used to be a big event each season in the football calendar and naturally Counties want to retain power.  We even have to give priority to Reserve County competitions in certain circumstances if the situation arises.  The higher you go now though in the pyramid, the less relevant County Cups seem to be, to the point of being a nuisance to some clubs.  This is compounded by the decision of the Leagues Committee to allow higher divisions to go to 24 clubs.  There were several County reps who sat on the Sub-Committee that made that recommendation but I wonder if any of them considered the adverse effect upon their own Senior Cup competitions with additional league fixtures to complete.

It may be that the present situation whereby most matters are controlled through the FA direct or via the Counties should be looked at and some powers devolved to the Leagues.  As an example if Leagues ran their own disciplinary procedures, all the fines could be ploughed straight back for the good of the League in question.  It wouldn't be that difficult to administrate.

It would certainly be cheaper in admin terms as Counties these days have full-time staff, probably less than they would like but most Leagues at Step 5 and below (there are one or two exceptions)  are run on a voluntary basis but we still have to produce a full business and development plan every year in order to receive the annual FA grant, which certainly would not pay for even a single full-time employee.

Am I the only one that is getting the feeling that Mr C is cutting a frustrated figure at the moment ?

I think the passion he shows in his posts give an indication on how strongly he feels about the league and it does disappoint me when people post having a go at volunteers that run this league but will not put themselves up for doing a job or two.

Keep up the good work Mr C.

Most of us are frustrated with the way football is being handled at step 5 and below Krooner. I don't think I have had a season where I have heard of so many people talking about giving up!

Frustrated at the way it is handled and talking about given up.  Nice defeatist attitude.

It is not necessarily being defeatist when you become disillusioned about something in life. Maybe just a realisation that no matter how hard you try, or have tried, you simply cannot make a difference?
