Yet another bloody graduate!

Recommended Posts

I've just interviewed another one! Graduated in 2002 with a degree in Geography and has been bumming around for the last fourteen months. He wants a graduate training job because he feels that it will get him into management quicker. What a numpty!

I graduated in 2002 and have since had 4 jobs (this is my 4th). Not because I can't be bothered but because I can't get a permanent one! Have applied for numerous positions and am with countless agencies but with v little success. Had a couple of interviews but nothing came of them. Quite why I haven't had interviews for other positions is beyond me.

Now I am little more than a filing clark. A degree, £10k in debt, countless other thousands spent by the tax payer to get me through education and I'm a f****ng filing clark!!! Not only that but my line manage is younger than me and has trouble answering my rather simple questions (is High Wycombe around London or in the rest of the UK?).

Thank Christ I didn't have to pay £3k per year plus take out a similar size loan on top of that for this privilage.

Well you could do a history /media degree and end up working for a government department and being shouted at by angry customers. Oh what fun!

High Wycombe is in Buckinghamshire near Aylesbury LMU.

All the above goes to prove that the only University that's any good, is...........

THE UNIVERSITY OF LIFE.

Its cheaper than Oxbridge and the rest, and you learn your mistakes the hard way, by taking the knocks....

Good Lord, now there's a coincidence. The Invisible Student was reading H and P at Leicester but dropped history after the first year, and is now doing straight politics (obviously, really!).

Well I don't know what Happy would say, but at least you have read a "proper" academic subject IMHO.

Good luck with it all, and don't give up, go for it.

Yeah, I know.

I hated the politics side of my degree. Unfortunately, I found this out too late and so couldn't drop it without re-sitting my 1st year (looking back, I wouldn't have minded doing this at all!).

Here I am in job no. 6. Only due to last yesterday and today mind though a lot of work to get through. Maybe I'll get overtime.... Yeah right.

Better crack on.

I did a degree in Politics and freely admit that I did so to avoid doing any work at university. Choosing only modules that related to current affairs I avoided doing any really study in favour of watching newsnight and the late night politics show they had on BBC2, sometimes amusingly presented by Garth Crooks. Absolute piece of pi$$. Whenever an essay deadline loomed Mandelson did something silly so I wrote about him.

Must admit that getting a job afterwards wasn't easy. Had visions of going into teaching, so did some voluntary work while my PGCE application went through. Got nowhere with that and found myself temping for a while. The temping job led to short-term work and several job interviews later I'm still in the same place but in a full time position as a Research Officer at a firm who evaluate educational policy for the Charles Clarke bods. Very lucky I know and could be like you LMU and milling from post to post. Hope things pick up for you.

[color:"blue"] Is it time to have a go at LMU ??

I sympathise completely. Too many of our elitist children come out of University, take their 'Gap Year', (what the f*ck is that, anyway), then have no intention of getting a job, either sponging off the State or living of Mummy and Daddy. At least she's trying her damnest to get gainful employment !

Our eldest daughter was struck by diabetes when she was in her GSCE year, and consequently mucked up the final part of her education. Now she has qualified as a school caterer and has her 'own school'. She also runs the after school club at her youngest daughters school, and with the help and support of the Headmaster, has been recommended to train as a 'Reception Teacher' Guess what !! Surrey County Council have just withdrawn all funding for the courses she needs to qualify, so she's just shelled out around £300 of her own hard earnt money to do the first year off her own back. That's dedication !!

I know it's the in-thing to denigrate the youth of today, and Yes, some of them need denigrating, but on the whole, I think they're a pretty good lot.

Well ! That's it, I'm getting out of my pram now to retrieve my rattle !
