V Aylesbury Utd 15/2/14

I thought it was a fantastic entertaining match, with at times some excellent passing football.

With Dyer looking as though he is very close to fitness again, along with Smith, Wheeler and the Harris' it looks to me like we are capable of scoring four goals or more against anyone in our league, and if it means we concede in most games then I'm not overly concerned..... if we have to win all our matches 5-3, 5-1 or 4-3, I'd be happier with that than watching us win matches 1-0.

Usually,I would agree with your analogy,Curtis. about rather winning high scoring games and being entertained  but now we're at the business end of the season,I'll take a win however way it comes,as long as we make the play-offs.

I thought 'Wheels' was off his game yesterday.Everyone has an off day.Darren has been among our better players of late,so I won't be too harsh on him.

Think we have a number of other players that can also get us a goal when needed, from the ones you mentioned,Curtis.

It was great to see the options we had with all five substitutes on the bench yesterday and those that did come on enhanced our deserved win.

Ref was lenient with the yellows and I still maintain we had a perfectly good goal disallowed, but other than that I think he did ok.

I have just scrolled through the whole 90 minutes in editing the highlights and I can't find an obvious 'disallowed goal' anywhere !

I seem to remember one when the ball was put into the net about 10 seconds after the Referee's whistle blew for an 'infringement', so I didn't bother including that one as most of the players on the pitch had all stopped.

The Ref did miss an obvious handball in the area for which Slough should have had a penalty in the First Half though. That one will be on the extended highlights version on the MyFC site.

I'm assuming this is the 'goal' right at the end of the first half, where I believe it was Scott Harris pretty much kicked one of their players in the chest as he attempted an acrobatic effort to reach the ball.  Was right by it and it was never a perfectly good goal.  You wouldn't have liked it if it had been conceded against us and given, there was a very definite contact with the defender and nowhere near the ball.

Other than that, I thought that we played well going forward however looked a little shaky at the back which would need to be addressed against the top teams.  Everyone worked hard to put in a shift and get the job done once again.  Certainly good to put more points on the board with some of the other teams not playing and Dunstable losing.

One observation, we played against a side who play very similar to us, in the way they attacked... when both teams do that you can often leave yourselves open.. pretty similar to Northwood game...

I wouldn't say that we were poor at the back in the slightest, 1st goal was a punch that Sommers did not get enough on, second goal is a good goal (you have to accept things at times) great ball across goal, superbly headed down by Field, and finished nicely by Blackett (nobody indirectly responsible).... 3rd goal is a free kick that has been lost in the melee of bodies.

I think we got at them, and they got at us, this is called an open game, however we were always confident we would score more than them, and in the end we did.

I thought some of the football we played especially first half was excellent.

Clearly we would like a clean sheet which we have had in last 2 games, but this is not always possible in the way we play.

One other comment I wanted to respond too (from Graham) was not picking up enough seconds, this is normally a job you associate with the midfield, and I though Clurgy and Rummy were top draw and won countless second balls, and I thought they were excellent together.

I don't remember apart from maybe a 15-20 minute spell in the second half where we were not winning the battle all over the pitch?

I didn't think it was an obvious disallowed goal, but in the first half the ball got crossed around the six yard line, Scott Harris attempted an overhead kick and missed the ball, (and the defender marking him went down like he had been shot, but then miraculously recovered without any treatment) the ball ran to Warren who put it in the net.

From where I was standing it didn't look like there had been any contact with the defender, but the linesman shouted that the free kick was given for a dangerously high foot.

Echo what's already been said. 2 good attacking teams - our defence could have been better but in the end it didn't matter. We're beginning to get some momentum at a vital stage of the season

Agreed no contact. Defender ducked into his foot that was left than 2 foot off the ground. Gal should have been given. Obvious. Guess the camera is quite some way away tbf.

I agree with nearly everything you've said here,Neil. I did, however, feel that Dave Woozley didn't have one of his better games to his usual high standards and that Adam Foulser and Wooz  both together, had there work cut out against the pace of the Ducks offensive play.

Think you're spot on about both teams having an open style of play, which counteracted each other.

We will need to be a bit tighter between centre of defence and our defensive play from the centre of midfield against Dunstable I feel, to get the right result for us.

No doubt we have the ammunition to score goals against Dunstable but protecting a lead may be crucial at this Saturday's game, don't you think?

Cracking game, hugely entertaining. Thought at times we were superb particularly Clurgy and Rummy who seem to be an excellent midfield partnership and starting to control games in the centre of the park. Ryan Parsons is an excellent addition to the squad, he saved two certain goals and was a worthy man of the match. Being ubber critical behind the goal my view is you can't give MOTM to a defender in a game where we have conceded three goals. Personally would have given it to Smithy for two goals and a hand in two other goals. Good to see him back to full fitness and in good form.

Really looking forward to next week - COYR

I'd prefer it if we didn't sit back and try to defend a lead.... our best form of defence is to attack.

Agree with you but the best teams have the best defences, too.

I'm not saying sit back. I'm saying tighten up and attack. We gave Aylesbury United too much room and time on the ball. If we play so open against Dunstable we have every chance that we will lose the game.

I can't see Neil and Jon changing much especially given Guy Hollis's unavailability and their preferred style of play with two wingers but I think if I was the manager I would toy with the idea of bringing in Ben Edwards [if he's fit enough?] for Darren Wheeler and play him alongside Jamie and Leigh, to start the game and use Ryan Parsons in a wing back sort of way.

This gives us the option of 'Wheels' and Jake Parsons making a big impact in the second half.

I was standing on the side in the second half where Wheels was playing and notice he tends to get frustrated very easily and his head seems to drop (imo).

If the ball is not played out to him (and sometimes on Saturday, the better ball was to someone else) he starts muttering to himself.

Then a few mins later, he whipped in a fantastic cross which we should have put away.

As entertaining the game was, people commenting bad defending, we dont want to see 5-3 score lines every week etc... (which we wont obviously) but I tell you, that on Saturday was worth the £8 enterance fee. Lets just enjoy what we saw and look forward to the next game...

Darren Wheeler, like most quality players, wants the ball all the time and understandably gets frustrated when he doesn't get it.

Most top players have their quirks and Wheels is no different.

A small price to pay for having such a top player at our club.

Thanks Ed.

First time I've managed to get three of my photos in a single edition, although that was mainly due to a lack of other games.

I quite like the added pressure of having to get good shots, and then having a very tight deadline after the final whistle to get them over to them.
