Would think Ampthil may have the advantage of legs if it goes to ET with Hanwell playing couple of nights ago on heavy pitch. Two quality sides both of who will not be fearing anyone in next round.

Great game at Ampthill and brilliant advert for South Mids, until the melee at the end of extra time.

The wind was very strong and Ampthill used it to their advantage in the first half, especially using Taylor's long throws. Thought Hanwell defended very well against this and to be honest there were few clear cut chances in the first half. Watson was unlucky with a difficult header that hit the post. I thought Watson was a little isolated up front. At the other end again few chances, although Healey looked lively throughout. Again credit to Ampthill defence who I thought were good throughout game. Hanwell went ahead on the stroke of half time with an excellent curled free kick from Rhone, gave the keeper no chance to be fair. Ampthill would have been gutted by the sucker punch.

The second half was similar to the first with Hanwell probably a little on top and creating a little more. However the defence proved very resolute. Hanwell and Healey in particular will rue a 10 second spell that would have killed the game. Connor Duffy (I think) had an excellent strike that was saved by Conway, who also impressed me. From the resulting corner, Healey found himself free and headed over from 5 yards. It would have finished the game off.

They equalised through an own goal, a free kick from 10 yards into the half was launched into the area and the Hanwell defender could only flick it into their own goal. Hanwell might have felt hard done by, Credit must go to Ampthill who really went for it in the last 20 making their subs and going 3 at the back. It left them exposed, but you have to have to go for it in cup games.

Extra time beckoned, not before a Hanwell supported was ejected for something. Ampthill scored relatively quickly. A good counter attack found Watson on the edge of the area. He shifted it on to his left and curled it in to the top corner.

Ampthill battled really hard in extra time and if I'm honest Hanwell management didn't follow the lead of Craig Bicknell and really push forward. The game was finished after a brilliant counter attack with Holmes lobbing the keeper on the half volley from 30 yards or so.

The game ended on a sour note, a tackle by lyon on Rhone caused a melee with Lyon, Watson and C Duffy all seeing red. It was about 60 yards from where I was standing by the dugout. Ampthill didn't think it was a foul as the ball did go as you would expect from the tackle. However it was with some force, so the ref obviously felt it was dangerous, you just can't really tell from 60 yards. I wasn't that surprised Rhone and lyon had been having a nigglely game all match with each other. Again not sure what the 3 reds were for, but the assistant to confirm to me one was a headbutt.

A word on the referee who I wouldn't say had a bad game, however this is now probably the 5th game I have seen this season when a flurry of cards distributed late in a match, I'm not talking about the reds either. Similar tackles went unpunished earlier in the game and unfortunately this just allows them to continue.

Final word to the Ampthill people working in the club who worked very hard all day. The ladies in the tea bar were going non stop, but I thought service was great.

Well done to Ampthill and good luck in next round. Commiserations to Hanwell but loads to play for this season still.
