Extend The SSML 2013/14 Season

Recommended Posts

All sorted by playing midweek games all

Through august September and October. Even start the season a week or so earlier. We dredge through weeks of pre season which at our level

Is unnecessary. We could just train more than twice a week in the summer to prepare and not play 7-8 friendlies. Two thirds of the season could be competed by December and then virtually have a winter break. I wish non league had its own governing body and wasn't dictated to by the fa.

Speaking a lot of sense there

Play the games predominantly on good surfaces in decent weather and our youth football would be better too. We ask our kids to play in poor conditions on muddy pitches and expect them

To develop. No coincidence the better teams internationally come from warm climates. It helps

No way the FA will extend league so we have to find our own solutions , Spending more money on the pitch to make it a better surface for your team or teams  and facilities must help .I am sure we will finish the league as we did last year. Good luck to all the volunteers in the coming weeks that keep our great clubs going.

No to extending the season for me.  Camberley have played 25 games and we have 17 left.  We are in the title hunt, although we will not win it.  We have a pitch that rarely gets called off because of rain.  why should we penalised because other clubs dont have decent draining pitches ?  We have to be left haning on while they catch up.  Colliers Wood have played 29 games.

The answers for me are all mentioned above.  Less teams at Step 5.  More midweek games at the start of the season.  More funding into 3g pitches (although that wouldnt solve some clubs as shown with Hertford Town, Abingdon Town etc).  SOme of the lessser competitions can wait and see if they can run or not.

Following was sent to all SSML club secretaries today

To ALL STEP 5 & 6 LEAGUES

Focus Group Members, Mike Appleby and John Ward For information

Further to the request for observations on the requirement for an extension to the current playing season I can advise that the Leagues’ Committee was made aware of the feelings of those leagues that responded to the request for comments. After lengthy discussion it was agreed to defer any decision on an extension until 1st March, and a sub-committee was appointed to take that decision. Mike Appleby will be advising all leagues in due course of the decision reached.

KIND REGARDS

So they have given themselves an extension to decide whether everyone else gets an extension.

  • 3 weeks later...

I personally think as we are playing sat.tues.thurs.sat next week. and have midweeks with no games and a sat spare in april. Would now be unfair to extend, against teams who are playing loads in the next few weeks.
